New GPU
personally i will go with MSI, also think about EVGA
if u are on 1080p, gtx 970 is overkill by a long shot ( for Mmo’s )so maybe get the 960 4gb wich is still more than enough for gw2, tera, BnS, Black desert etc. and put the rest of the money in another thing or save for further upgrades
also, depends how often do you upgrade, is under 3 years >>960, if 4-5>> 970
MSI and ASUS is known to make quality coolers, the rest of the card is largely the same.
What’s your CPU, though? Gw2 is MUCH more reliant on CPU single core strength than anything with a GPU.
Infact, if your current GPU is moderately recent and mid-grade or above, you’re probably fine with it.
So to recap: What’s your current PC specifications? CPU,GPU, RAM and Operating System.
Personally, I would go with EVGA – I’ve never had an issue with one of their cards. A GTX 970 is a good choice, in my opinion.
get the 980 and be prepared for future games

AMD and nvidia should be releasing new GPUs later this year, so if you can, hold off and you’ll either have a new architecture or get the current gen for cheaper.

I have been running GW2 for 1,5 years on Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti, full name – Windforce 2X 2GB GDDR5 OC (GV-N75TOC-2GI) and link to the product page:

You should be easily pick one for about 125 EUR even without extra sales (these do not cost 400!). Also GTX 750 Ti uses so little power (around 60 W max) that it does not even require extra power connector.
GW2 is not very demanding game and the GPU has never had any problems to run it, but I do have some graphics settings 1 step below max (reflexions, character model limit). Its probably more important to have good CPU for GW2, i5 should be good enough.

My current CPU is AMD Athlon with an ATI radeon 9 somehting gpu. I haven’t done an upgrade since 2009 so the system is getting pretty old and I am building a new one from scratch.
I have already bought the i5 6600K and an SSD evo 250 giga, but that is pretty much it. Next I was researching for GPU. Also, I’d like to play in 1440p, not 1080.
Get a 390 over a 970, especially for 1440P. More performance for your Euro

i5 6600k its amazing, that ssd its rock solid too. for 1440p go with 970, since a good 500w psu will handle it no problem, gtx 980 its not a good value for the money, better step up to 980 ti if u have the $$
and i might recommend going for 16 gb ram, especially if u use ts/skype and have tons of tabs in chrome or if u stream/record. from what i noticed, 8gb its enough for now but in the near future it might not cut it anymore
r9 390 its a nice alternative cuz of 8gb vrm but u need good 650W psu for that
GTX TITAN Z!
Trust me… You want it.. You need it… You gotta get it in SLI… =D
lemme know what u decide to go with im thinking of upgrading as well. pulling med-high on a 1gb HD7850 (i7-4790kcpu)… lookin at gtx970.. only game i play is gw2 tho.. so not sure if overkill..
I have an MSI GTX 960 gaming 2GB. It eats GW2 for fun. Now if you are planning to play any new triple A games in the near future, you would be better off with 970. The only reason I didn’t get a 970 was because I’m not really planning on getting any other games any time soon, save Mass Effect Andromeda, and if I need a new card to play it I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

You don’t have to buy new GPU just because they are being released. For GW2 HD 7850 is already perfectly capable and upgrading to GTX 970 has no real benefits. I normally suggest upgrading CPU but you already got top CPU too so… Are you actually feeling the game lags a lot? Or you just want to spend some money for no good reason?
Only reason for you to upgrade would be if you want to play some other much newer games that are designed to require much more GPU power or use modern standards (4k, DirectX 12 etc).
It’s definitely worth upgrading from a 7850, even for GW2. I saw a huge difference between my 280x and my 7850, even out in the open world, when I had to RMA my 280×. A 970 is a bit higher end then needed, though, and a 390 is a better buy anyways. But still, there are definitely benefits to upgrading from a 7850

no lag, game is beautiful – 50-120FPS depending where im at (never notice above 60 tho since 60hz tv) on 1080p on 55inchtv. i7 runs at 4.6ghz. but gpu-z shows card runs at 99%, @60c temp all the time when playing. so while there is no lag and it stays cool, it is defenitley taxing the card. so i guess i wanna upgrade for the sake of upgrading. maybe a gtx 960 would be a better buy, although i do not think the 128bit memory bus could make use of the 4gb version i think that one is a gimmick..
@black sun empress
If your card is running GW2 adequately, and you admit you’re upgrading for the sake of upgrading (I know the feeling ); why don’t you wait and see what the new AMD/nvidia GPUs bring to the table?
I think AMD is closer to releasing their new architecture and the rumors are very impressive.

Haha okay, this comes to about what? 3,000 euro? Why not, haha XD
