Hi all.

I’m new to Guild Wars 2, and frankly, after a little experience in playing the game (I’m currently level 10) I want to get some help on some things. So :o

I’m new, and I’m wondering. What’s the best way to level? I’m having fun and all this, but it seems the leveling is a bit harder and slower. (I’m used to playing WoW)

Also, I just need help on the Crafting. I’m seriously finding it hard to find veins, or things to gather for it (Maybe I’m looking too hard?) and I’m wondering really, is it worth doing early-on?

And, is there an easy way to make money? Or should I just worry about that later game? ‘cause back onto the Crafting talking, they sell supplies I noticed, and they’re kinda.. expensive. To me, at least, because I haven’t seen much of the game, and I know from experience in WoW, that in MMO’s, gold is important.

Also, did I pick too hard of a class-thingy? I chose an Engineer, and it seems cool! But as you know, I’m used to WoW, and it seems a bit on the harder end. Not to say it’s not fun, but just wondering.

And lastly, I’m confused about PvP. So I hear there’s WvW, and I know NOTHING about that. Are all of the races friendly? Like, if you see a Charr as a Human, would they be an enemy? Is WvW the only PvP? Is there like, a PvP currency, like there is in WoW?

Oh, and one more thing! I heard there’s dungeons in this game? How do they work?

Thanks in advance! All help is more than greatly appreciated
Sorry for it being so long XD

I’m no expert, but i think i can answer some of your questions.

I’m not really sure what’s the “best” way to level is, but i find myself level up quite quickly by doing heart quest and events. Exploring is also a good way to gain some xp .

I find myself making a lot of money by selling the crafting materials. (I don’t know if ditching the crafting was a good choice or not. Don’t trust my words on it.)

As for classes, pick the class that suites your play style! That’s the obvious choice in MMO RPG s.

WvW is a war between server, your only enemies are the other 2 servers. There’s also sPvP that you can participate in by clicking one of the icons on the toolbar in the top left corner. (forgot the hot key)

The PvP currency would be fame(?), i forgot its name, it’s the purple thingy near your cash. You can use them to buy items after you filled a heart, etc.

As for dungeons, I’m pretty new to it myself. I know that the first dungeon recommended level is 40, and there’s a story mode that you need to clear before you can enter it freely.

That’s all the answer within my knowledge, hope it helps!
I apologize if any part is difficult to understand, English is not my first language.

You get XP for almost everything, sometimes without even noticing. You get XP from killing mobs, completing quests (Story, Heart Quests, Dynamic Events), resource gathering, crafting, discover a new area, open up a new waypoint, etc.

Also, I just need help on the Crafting. I’m seriously finding it hard to find veins, or things to gather for it (Maybe I’m looking too hard?) and I’m wondering really, is it worth doing early-on?

Gathering is always worth doing because you always get XP from them. The only thing is you need to spend silver/copper to get the gathering tools. But it is worth it. Gather everything!

Crafting on the other hand – it depends what you want. The aim is to get to the max level in crafting so you can craft end-game stuff (which are also available other ways), and get XP while you get there. If you don’t want to level too quickly, don’t craft. You can easily get gears of your level from the Trading Post, and it is cheaper then if you would craft them yourself.

And, is there an easy way to make money? Or should I just worry about that later game? ‘cause back onto the Crafting talking, they sell supplies I noticed, and they’re kinda.. expensive. Well, gold (or silver, copper) is important in GW2 too, among other currencies available. There are lots of way to make money – play the Trading Post, gather materials and sell them, vendor off equipments you find, run dungeons, complete maps, etc.

Also, did I pick too hard of a class-thingy? I chose an Engineer, and it seems cool! But as you know, I’m used to WoW, and it seems a bit on the harder end. Not to say it’s not fun, but just wondering.

As long as you are enjoying it and having fun, don’t let that stop you! On the other hand, you do have 5 character slots available, so play other classes and get a feel.

All races are created equal (except the way they look .. and some racial skills). There no sworn enemies between races. WvW is essentially server versus server fights that occurred in separate maps. In WvW, it is possible to see large scale fights such as 20 vs 20.

There is another game mode called PvP, which is a battle between two teams of players. They use different rules from WvW. You can see more info in GW2 Wiki site.

Oh, and one more thing! I heard there’s dungeons in this game? How do they work?

As you attained certain level, you will receive a message that says a dungeon is now opened to you. dungeon is an instance map where a team of 5 players can run. They have the usual storyline, boss fights, traps, puzzles, etc. You get the usual drops from bosses, mobs, and more importantly, dungeon tokens (explorable mode) which you can accumulate and exchange them for exotic gears.

There are two dungeon mode: Story and Explorable. Explorable mode is open to you only when you have completed Story mode. However in a party of 5, as long as someone already done Story mode, you can tag along in explorable mode as well.

Lots of information are available from GW2 Wiki site http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page. So take some time to read up.

Don’t worry about dungeons. If you play your personal story, you will periodically get in-game mail that tells you that you have reached the appropriate level for each respective dungeon. The first of these happens during the story step at level 31. Which is also shortly after you unlock your elite skill slot.
