New Player questions and discussions.
Hey there
1: Elementalist has the highest dps possible of any class but it is a complete glass cannon. It is widely regarded as the class for skilled players. Look here for builds and vids showing the correct rotations http://qtfy.enjin.com/elementalist. The easiest class at the moment is definitely Hammer Dragonunter. Maybe have a look at the rotation for that build on quantify if you want something with a more forgiving learning curve.
2: Use http://gw2crafts.net/ for crafting, it’s very good. If you want instructions on how to craft a specific item use https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/31079-Mj%C3%B6lnir I’ve put in that hammer as an example but you can use it for nearly every item in the game.
3. Buff foods are definitely worthwhile. The right buff food on the right build can make a significant difference. for instance in WvW there is a gaurdian build that needs uptime on boons. There is a food that gives +15% boon duration and -10% damage received, this food on the gaurd build in question is very good indeed. Sites like quantify and Metabattle will recommend optimum foods for various builds. Sometimes the cheaper versions are very good value. But it’s up to you if you think they are worth it, Some players don’t bother with them.
4: I usually haze out for the story, hopefully someone else can chime in on this.
5: I played ls2 and enjoyed it but it is definetly not required content for ls3. Especially as ls1 introduced the characters and that is not available anymore. Anet charged for ls2 because they could I guess. When Ls3 came out as free content my jaw was on the floor. I had already exchanged gold for gems to pay for it. It was a very nice surprise but as a general rule Anet is very greedy and will milk the playerbase as much as they can.
Hope this helps a bit! have fun out there

1.) Elementalist as Ballistic said. But Ele aside from glass cannon CAN surprisingly spec into a solid support. Best heals after Druid; great boon/auras, CC, it’s formidable. You can spec Earth, skills, get vit/tough up considerably and take a beating but DPS suffers, basically that’s for support only.
2.) Link posted above me
3.) Buffs are very good. Group play is why. And solo some raise magic find, etc. It SEEMS small, 100 power or 70 precision, but get boon duration, heal pwr, etc. it starts to matter. THey dont last long why tend to save them for stuff; like Octovine event, Teq, etc. w/ Open World OR Raid/Fractals etc.
4. Others know
5. LWS2 is NOT. BUT – it helps. If u are a story completionist, yeah – BUT – more so it has needed central mastery points. THey become hard to get.
LWS3 is after HoT too; it is worth starting just to unlock areas. Can go back and finish other stories what I did. But Bloodstone Fen u can get ascended accessories of any stat. With Blood Rubies. It’s worth unlocking for that alone.

All Living World Seasons/Episodes are free when live. Anyone playing the game at the time received Season One Episodes at no charge, and Season Two Episodes at no charge. With Season 3, as long as you log in to a character while the Episodes are live, you will unlock the Episode even if you do not currently own Heart of Thorns. You will, however, need to purchase the expansion before being able to access the Episode(s).
Living World Season One was an attempt at having a world with time that actually moved. Those episodes were available to play for a limited time and once over was gone. Anyone who joined after couldn’t play them. They came out every two weeks and lasted four. This was a way to keep players returning to play.
Because of the blow black Season Two was designed as a side story that was repeatable and persistent once unlocked. Again to keep players returning the carrot/stick was if you logged in while it was active, you got it for free, if you didn’t you will need to pay a modest sum of 200 gems. They later added a package deal of 20% off of all the episodes you don’t have to the gem shop for 1280 gems for all 8 episodes.
However you can play the missions if you party with someone who has them unlocked. There are certain rewards you won’t be eligible for but if you want the story, which ties back to season one’s villain, you can experience it at least. I didn’t think it was bad and provided a bit of lore. It’s a bridge between the events of Season One and Heart of Thorns. It had it’s moments.
As for the egg, why Caithe let it be taken away or why we the commander want to take it away? Some of those questions are answered in Season Two, others in Heart of Thorns.

Thanks so much for these responses. I will start with the links today.
My current squad of characters are:
Lev 80 Norn Druid
Lev 80 Sylvari Elementialist
Lev 80 Asura Chronomancer. Received the Lev 80 boost given with the Heart of Thorns expansion.
The remaining three are all under 30. A Char, engineer, a Human, Thief, and an Asura, Reverent.
(I had a Necromancer at lev 77 but deleted it.),
I can see from Ballistic’s response I have concentrated on skills which need more experience. As EriskRedLemur points out, many of these professions are more suited to support in group play.
I have tried to follow are large group around the Cursed Shore once. They seemed to be on a general farming expedition for gear to sell. They were led by one character, but I had a problem keeping up and other than a bit of DPS, didn’t contribute very much.
I still think it would be more interesting to be able to link up with less experienced players and learn from collective experience. It is, after all, how all of you got the experience you each have now. But that’s just me.
I started the engineer and Reverent, largely for their abilities to take more hits. But having taken 3 characters to high levels so far, I was becoming bored with the repetition so decided to look for advice.
I may concentrate on the Reverent and Engineer for now and leave the others to stew for a while.
The crafting links are so very welcome. If it is just a long slow grind then so be it, but at least I’ll have some means of knowing I’m on the right track.
Understand about the story line, horses for courses I suppose. Personally, it’s what makes these games so interesting. I’m especially interested to see the differing ways the story line pans out for the Sylvari.
Thanks again for the advice and support.
