New User Looking for Advice
1) START THE HALLOWEEN EVENT! lol. just take part in it. would hate to see anyone miss it. though i see where you’re coming from as well. best advice to say is, have an open mind! don’t let this experience be the be-all, end-all for your game. it’s sort of like.. when you meet a girl/guy during the holiday seasons, and then you go back to “real life” and it’s all different.. lol. so as long as you’re aware of this going in ; ))) i think you’ll have a good time. each event, etc has a day or two before the next Act or event comes up, so you’ll have time to figure it out. i started played since the early headstart and still had to take time to figure out how the halloween events work. there are guides popping up here and there as well. with gw2, as long as you have an open mind, and not wanting to rush everything and just have a mindset to enjoy, then you’ll love it. and even if it’s just seeing Lion’s Arch (main hub city) all decked out in Halloween gear and then seeing it later in it’s normal state will be a treat. if u have it now, PLAY NOW! lol
2) haha PC here. well have a mac too, but don’t game on it usually. good luck and hopefully some will chime in! if not, maybe check out the mac beta forum thread?

First off all,
Halloween has started. For starting players it has little impact and the extra things are minor and very recognisable.
In the starter area there are only three things you wouldn’t get normally:
1: Raw candy corn, Rich candy corn veins. The are recognisable being big ‘traffic cones’ and can be mined using a pick (wich you can buy from a merchant or as a reward for playing the personal story).
2: Trick or treat doors. You find these at random locations in the landscape. Knock on them them to spawn one or two halloween foes
3: special dynamic events. They are rather rare, and are only recognisable by the fact that you are fighting very strange enemy’s (e.g. plastic spiders). However they are just as regular dynamic event and give the same feeling of difficulty.
Overall, don’t be intimidated by the event. In the end it is just a carved pumpkin with lights inside it, on a stick with a coat. Halloween is for the fun of scaring you, not to scare you to death. And pls ignore ghoststories bout a certain mad king returning.
So very much welcome to the beautifull world of Tyria.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I did end up starting the game — I just couldn’t wait, haha. So far all I’ve done that’s Halloween-y is to carve a pumpkin and get some devil horns. Akamon, you’re right that it’s easy to distinguish between what’s holiday stuff and what’s regular stuff. And thanks for the specifics, mercury. Naturally, I never give credit to nasty, suspicious ghost stories. I’m sure the holiday will go by completely unhindered and that no one will try to spoil it for the innocent children of Tyria.
If you miss out on the halloween event deliberately then you’re pretty dumb. It’s only once a year and the events are always going to be different etc. There are tons of things available that won’t be next year, or ever again for that matter.
As if you would miss it. (The general rule for all MMOs is to be there for everything).
I still wish I had been at the event for the ‘Arcanite Reaper’ guitar on WoW… kitten
