Hello everyone! So I bought GW2 a few weeks back. Been loving the game deeply. So I just reached Lv80 last night with my Warrior and I have a few questions.

What do I do next? As in, what gear do I go after. What weapon? I intend to run both PvE and PvP (WvW) deeply.

I’m not sure about the current economy. I have stacked 80g or so. Is that really low? I have no idea since I see some weapons go for like 3k gold! (One is called Twilight which is really nice!)

Dungeons… How do I even start with this. Everytime I got to the Level to start a dungeon I tried but people just wanted “80s and Exp people”. How am I supposed to learn it then? There are not many groups available already and the only few there are, they just want experienced…

Mesmer! I’ve been thinking of making a Mesmer. They look like a very unique class (Been playing MMO’s my whole life and never seen something like it). How “wanted” are they? Are they any good?

Thanks in advance for all the answers and help. Have a good day!

Basically, you want to go for exotic gear, that is the orange quality. The highest tier is ascended, which is a reddish pink, but that isn’t required to do max 80 stuff (unless doing fractals).

The weapon you want depends on how you want to play. Do you like great sword? Axes? There are guides for max DPs (hint, its great sword). But again, its not required. Do you like dealing nothing but DMG and unable to really take a hit? The go for berserker, want some tankiness and DMG? Knights, its how you want to build.

80g is actually pretty good for you. You should be able to actually buy all the armor and weapons you need, but I would go to the karma vendors in or at the temples first for pieces.

As for dungeons, try using the lfg tool first for any friendly ones for new people. If that isn’t working, try finding a guild.

Mesmers are fun, slow at first when leveling till later, but then they really take off. They bring a portal, haste, ablnd other buffs or can be good DMG dealers. Lots of times you see speed dungeon runners wanting at least 1 mesmer.

Yeah for 80 gold you should be able to buy a full set of exotic gear weapons and trinkets. As for dungeons do all the story modes first to get a feel for how they work. I personally love fractals and you can work on ascended rings doing those and save your laurels for accessories or amulet. Good luck to you.

Do whatever you want. However you wish to play, tank, dps, healer (do not recommend on Warrior), support, that’s your choice, nothing will bar you.

If you have access to the LFG (‘Y’, under Friends), you can advertise that you’re looking for a group, or wait for a group that isn’t so restrictive to advertise.

Don’t worry about gold, ever. Frugal player or big-spender, it’s not fun worrying about gold and that’s not what you’re here for.

Have fun. If you want.

Yes GS is my weapon of choice so I’ll stick with it. Go for Berserker, what does that mean exactly?
I have about 160k Karma stacked up so which armor should I be getting specifically?

For Dungeons I tried the LFG system as well as /Map chat but most people wanted experienced players already. I guess I’ll have to look for a guild.

A note on the Ascended items. I’ve read that it takes MONTHS to get them. Real hard work. Is it true? I always like to go for the best but usually the ABSOLUTE best is for people who already have the better items and have “nothing” else to aim for.

The temples have exotic armor available with superior runes. Different temples have different superior runes with the armor (runes to match play style), but the exotic armor looks the same.

Living Story Season 2 is for level 80 characters so that is something else to do (new map).

Fractals are nice.

Depending on how new to the game you are, you may need to do various things to unlock various Trait choices such as map completion, etc… That could occupy time versus spending your hard earned coins to get the trait options.

The Lfg tool is useful, but requires patience to find a group willing to take on those of us that are not as experienced. I’ve been lucky enough to join up with some great people using the tool and they were very helpful/patient.

Berserker gear is equipment with the Power/Precision/Ferocity stat combo, and will usually have it as a prefix in the weapon/armor’s name. It’s the best for DPS and a lot of experienced dungeon-running groups will ask you to have it as it’s by far the most efficient for speedrunning, at the cost of being very squishy compared to other stat combos.

Given you’ve got a nice stash of gold (80 is really pretty good for where you are in the game I think) my own suggestion would be to spend it to buy exotic (orange) equipment from the Trading Post instead of using the temple/karma merchants, since the latter don’t necessarily have great stat combos. They’re good for training wheels but not much more than that imo.

(On the topic of gold, don’t try to judge your money from the highest-priced items on the TP such as Twilight – that’s a legendary weapon, as indicated by the purple name, and they are about the highest priced items in the entire game.)

Re: dungeons, for learning you could definitely try the story modes, if only to get used to running with a party, but one thing to keep in mind is that there is quite a difficulty spike between story and explorable modes. The best way to learn IMO would be to join a guild, as then you can get a party with people you know who can talk you through it properly, but otherwise it’s also valid to create your own party via LFG – writing something like “LFG, first-timer but willing to learn” in the description. It may take a little while to fill but you could be agreeably surprised, I know a bunch of experienced dungeon runners who like to occasionally pop into beginner groups to help out when they see them advertised, myself included. Hell if you’re EU feel free to friend & ping me ingame, I wouldn’t mind walking you through the commonly run paths.

As for mesmers, they are tricky to play I find, and like said above they take a while to get used too + are kitten squish at low levels. Their damage is not ideal but they can be pretty handy in groups as they have a lot of nifty utility skills, like Feedback which reflects projectiles or Portal which, well, creates portals (handy for skipping in dungeons, for example, or helping friends up jumping puzzles…). So if you do play one and like it, you’ll likely have no trouble finding parties once leveled up.

Oh I did not know about the Prefix thing. That’s useful! So I should buy an entire set with those stats huh? I guess I’ll start right away then.
