Q:

Hello guys,

I’m a new player who has bought the Ultimate edition and was looking to get some tips for starting.

-What should I buy with my Gems?
-What’s the best class for new players interested in PvE and PvP?
-And anything else appropriate to new players or the Ultimate edition.

Cheers.

Just a flesh wound keeps it updated when ever we get a sale.

I would say copper/silver feed salvagomatics for convenience atleast 2 shared slots but would go for the 5 to eventualy have on of each permanent harvesting tool again for convenience.

But before that I would get 9 char slots total to have one of each class if your a altoholic that is =)

The benefit of the ultimate is the extra slot and the gems, which are great but not anything play wise different than the base.
Gems, just saw a post the other day so it should be close or on the front page of this forum.
Profession is a personal preference thing. I don’t PvP and so have no opinion on it. I do however really, really enjoy 5 of the proffs in PvE not in order ranger, mesmer, revenant, ele, necro and their elites (except ranger which I have not tried since the base ranger works really well for me). Others have completely different likes and dislikes and it works either way.

Don’t buy anything right now. Keep a hold on the gems and keep looking in the shop until you see something you just cannot live without.
Personally I buy things like the shared slots, extra bag space, extra bank space, extra char slots —-- and only when they are on sale. Sometimes they have a rather large sale on minis, like only 50 gems each, that’s when I may get those.
I check the store every day to see what is on sale and then decide if I want to spend the gems.

Just remember there is nothing in the store that is mandatory to play the game. The unbreakable, forever harvesting tools, the extra bag space, the extra bank space – everything is just things that are mostly cosmetic. No one is going to do a check to see if you have anything from the store.

Hi,

in my opinion the best value for money is: (from most important one to least important)

Bank Slots (max 14 (your standard one included)

Bag Slots of your main character (7 Bags max – your standard 4 bagslots+ Backpack already included)

Characterslots (9 if you want to have each class at least once represented)

Increase of Material Storage Size

Shared Inventory slots (current maximum is 14 your free slot included) buy in sets of 5 for reduced price

1 Silver-salvage and 1 Copper-Salvage Tool (like other posted already – put them into the shared inv. slots)

unbreakable/unending Salvage tools (down to personal choice and preference as some have some funny or distracting animations – also not really all that much needed because normal tools exists and are pretty cheap)

This list is in no way doable just with the gems included in the ultimate edition but it could be a primer.
Unending Salvage Tools and Gathering tools as well as shared inventory slots are pure luxury while the bank-, bag-, and storage-slots are very helpful for hunter&gatherers and altoholics :-)

Hope it helped a bit :-)

Welcome to GW2!

I fully support all of the advice on saving your gems. If there is something you want now then yes, buy it. But hold out for at least the patch coming next Tuesday for the new LWS3 … there may be an amazing sale that comes with it.

Characters are based on preference. My first was a Warrior but I after making my Guardian I wish I had started there …. And my Ranger is my favorite next to the Revanant.

Some advice though …

Give it some time before you sink any money into crafting.
Dont waste gems on makeover kits (my fav thing in the whole world) until you’re sure you love your character enough to keep them.
Dont be afraid to ask questions in map chat.
Always check inventory before deleting a character :P

See you in game!

Keep in mind that characters celebrate birthdays, so you may want to keep at least one character safe from deletion to be able to hit that first birthday, and its associated rewards, as soon as possible. By the third birthday, you will be glad you did.

Welcome to Tyria, and good luck. =)

Welcome to the game!

I would recommend the watchwork pick. Bag slots and bank slots are also a good option as well, but these sometimes go on sale, so you might want to hold off and wait for a sale.

If you like making alts, shared inventory slots are awesome.

Saving your gems is good advice unless you see something you want cosmetically. There is almost nothing in the gem store that is absolutely needed and most of the items are convenience ones.
