So i just started playing the game about a week ago, and hit lvl 20 yesterday. I was wondering if i should continue to level in the living world first before i go into WvW, i don’t want to be farm bait as an upLevel. Would I benefit more from leveling in open world or just getting my feet wet in WvW? i’m sitting at about 4gold right now, maybe i could buy some better gear before i get started? Any feed back would help, thanks.

You’ll hardly be more than a distraction for a few seconds, if you survive the AoE onslaught. I’d recommend getting to level 80 first, obtain good WvW gear and then be a real help for the commanders there.

Think I started WvW at 30 on my guardian, you can contribute in the Zerg but against a true 80 you probably won’t fare that well considering they have exotic gear/ascended trinkets. I gained around 20-30 levels there

Kingteranas – 80 Guardian
Queen Of Macabre – 80 Thief
Dragonbrand [Ankh]

Don’t let them put you off.

The important thing to be aware of is that the up-scaling of your gear is linked to your current level.
So if you are say level 20 wearing good level 20 gear, you will compare with a level 80 in exotics. If you are wearing level 15 gear, you won’t.
You can obtain PVT gear suitable for your level from the karma vendor in your Citadel (He’s at the back with the Laurel vendor and the lvl80 armor/gear vendors). You’ll need to get trinkets from the TP though. Make sure they are the best you can afford.

Of course, you won’t have the traits and skills of a lvl 80 which is a disadvantage but if you stick with the Commander, you’ll be fine.

Don’t let people put you down either. You’re perfectly entitled to play the game you paid for. If you want to WvW for the sake of WvW and not some stupid achievement, you’re allright in my book.

I actually bought the game strictly for the WvW aspect of it, I’ve always loved world pvp so it seemed fitting. I really don’t mind the leveling process in this game though, it’s pretty fresh so far, I just wanted to make sure if i did hop into the odd WvW i wasn’t going to be a hindrance on anyone. Even if i don’t contribute a whole lot, learning what to do and where to go would be the main goal. From what i’ve read though, if you go undergeared you tend to be rally bait which i’m assuming is frowned upon.

Going into WvW upleveled isn’t a sin, don’t let anyone try to make you feel bad about it. That’s a great way to level while you watch and read the map chat / commander talk and learn the ‘ways of the WuvWuv’. While you may find yourself outpowered in a open field battle you can still help your server tremendously by being someone in a tower or keep that has an eye on the gates and walks the walls and alerts the /map chat to any movement in your area.

Scouts can be the difference between your borderland keeping the upgraded Tier 3 keep they worked so hard for or losing it to a small havoc group that no one saw sneaking around. Having the server voice chat program and hearing all the calls and explanations there can be very useful and informative even if you are in a static position.

If you want to mix it up and follow the pin, do so but be aware that your learning curve might be steep at first. It’s fine, your one free enemy rally won’t make or break the tide of the fight and you’ll get valuable experience in open map fighting (and kiting!) Even a level 20 can carry 10 supply to help your team build siege or repair structures faster.

Go kick butt.

I would recommend no less than level 30 with at least one elite skill and the most current armor. Even then, you will be an easy kill if you are separated from your group/zerg.

Don’t worry nobody should be angry at you for being low level. Your activities (such as dying alot) won’t affect them in any significant way since this is mass PvP. Only the very organized guild groups care about rally bait.

I say go for it and have fun! I wish i had tried it sooner. WvW is the mst fun i have in the game and i’m not a PvPer. I roam with small groups and go with the zerg when there is one. Yo will get your butt kicked occassionally but anything you do to help makes you feel good. No one has ever given me grief over getting smacked. I’m on Isle of Janthir server and every single person in WvW so far has been super.
