Hello everyone!

I just brought guild wars 2 (after alot of convincing myself from what others where saying) im not a hardcore player and spend maybe 20 hours max a week gaming now days.

Im looking for a good bunch of people/guild and an oceanic based server (im from melbourne)

can anyone point me in the right direction of which server to choose for australians? or better yet a aus server with a friendly populated guild?

is there anything i should know before picking profession/race? im more a warrior kind of guy…

Hi,
gratz on getting into new mmo rpg.
I can’t help you with server or guild as i am on EU server.
But i can help with classes.

First of all i guess you want to explore PvE fisrt (and that ok, because GW2 PvE is nice, but way to easy). Warrior in PvE is still OP and you will finish the game without any trouble.
Race are not so importand, it is basicly how you begin you game and few extra skills.
Asura: High Tech + Golems
Human: Pfff
Norn: Hunters + Spirit skills
Charr: Warriors and Engis (if you like to be a warrior, this is best for you)
GreenPeace Trees: Some annoyng elfs

hope it help’d a at least a bit

You could try Sea of Sorrows, it seems to host a few oceanic players: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Oceanic-Server

Just remember that EU and US servers are seperated, so in case that you would like to guest to another world you only can do that within one server (e.g. guest from a EU world to another EU world).

Try to figure out which other timezones suits your local timezone the most. You don’t have to play on a certain “oceanic” world. (There does not exist a seperate oceanic “server”, just the EU and US servers)
Many medium or high populated worlds have people online nearly 24/7.

To make new friends or join a guild, you can have a look here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/first
They will welcome you with open arms. :-)

The race doesn’t really matter, except you want to pay attention to the racial skills. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Racial_skill
(Another point is your personal aesthetical preference.. for the character itself or for the starter area.. e.g. Norn can have tattoos and have a snowy starter area; Sylvari’s nightly glow can be customized and these guys (and Asuras) start in a jungle area; etc.)

As a warrior type you could play a warrior or a guardian, but all professions are worth a try. And there are more “tanky” options than only the warrior/ guardian.

I would suggest you to try out each class. You can easily do this by doing the pve tutorial, then travel to the pvp lobby (there you have to do the pvp tutorial once to access the area). You will be upscaled to lvl 80 and are now able to try out every skills.

If you have other questions, please feel free to ask. =)

Have fun and enjoy GW2!

Cheers.

Wow… friendly community! thank you so much!

Seems sea of sorrows is the unofficial way to go for me! and from a website i found plenty of aus guilds!

Sounds like charr warrior is the way to go….. hopefully they arent all guns ho just kill type of race? i prefer my warriors smart and skillfull not dumb and slow :P

Im not really a tanky type of player i prefer the more offense is better defense option? liike…… more swings = more life steal kind of approach

Warrior can be more mobile as some other classes and he is mostly full offensive (no worries for you there)
But you won’t get good life steal with it, but you wont even need it)
Have fun with Guild Wars 2.

Yeah, but there are also some options for “life steal” that a warrior could access. Overview of life steal: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Life_steal

I play all professions and I have a female charr warrior (~lvl 50). She is fun. xD
I like longbow and sword + axe as weapons.
As a warrior in pve you should not have the biggest issues, that’s true.
