a) connection wise / strong pvp / pve / alot of people / friendly / people to help through leveling and active end game!
2) I have played wow before and my favorite class in almost every game has been MAGE i just love the BURST DAMAGE and magic always been Kool to me! i think there are many mage like classes which is the best one (i hate being support tanky and so on i like kill!!!!!!)
3) Are there any good hints i should know about money making / things that before i do i should think about / maybe things i can avoid (like dont spend money in shops in wow use the auction house)
i forgot the rest of the things i needed to ask lol ill edit if i need more help thank you BTW for you help!

1] I will leave this for the US guys, since im EU
2] The closest is probably elementalist. Keep in mind that they arent the best now in sPvP. Its a deep (relatively diffcult to master) class that does have a lot of burst tho if thats what your after.
Keep in mind that there is a lot more spec (build) diversity in GW2 than in wow. So every class can be specced in to a somewhat of a spike build.
3] The best tip i can give is to experience everything. The game really shines in diversity (imo) so make sure you try out everything. While leveling i would check what each map has to offer on sites like :

http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/queensdale-map-of-pois-waypoints-vistas-skills-and-more/12547/

Once you reach max level i would make sure id join a nice guild. The list of things to do and to watch out for is so long that its really hard to describe it in one post. The following thread has some nice “i wish i knew this when i just started tips”:

1. I’m from US.. I play on Sorrow’s Furnace — just pick any of the US servers.. they are not tied to a specific area. If you have friends that play on other servers, you can “guest” on their server for a 24 hour period. I believe you only get two guest passes per 24 hours.

2. Make an Elementalist

3. Best place for all info – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

Have fun!

All the NA servers are at the same local in the US, Austin Tx.

The links provided in the previous posts will help you on your way. Don’t rush, enjoy the ride.

Just about everything activity will give you XP. Material nodes are not 1st come, everyone sees their “own” node. You don’t “hurt” other players at all by helping out. There isn’t a traditional MMO trinity of tank, healer, dps. Everyone can heal, everyone can rez, everyone has both range and melee attacks.

Biggest difference in my book over other MMOs I’ve played is moving and dodging, attacks in this game don’t root you. Armor only reduces damage. Best way to stay healthy is not get hit.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

1. Blackgate, Jade Quarry, Sanctum of Rall, Tarnished Coast are more populated servers.
2. Elementalist is awesome. Though they are squishier of all the classes. You might have hard time surviving.
3.
3a. Dodge roll. Learn it well.
3b. There is a 5% listing fee on the trading post with 10% tax out of the sold price (15% total imposed on the seller) so pick your sell price carefully
3c. Enjoy exploration, don’t rush to max level.
3d. Do not buy any equipment less than exotic off the TP, count on it dropping. It’s cheaper.
3e. Karma are hard to come by these days. If you need to fully equip your account of 5 characters with BiS gear, you’ll need over 3 million karma. Plus about 1 mil for each legendary you are going after. If you earn 10k karma a day you’ll need to play about a year to get that much. So don’t spend it on crap items from random karma vendors that you’ll eventually throw away.

big tip for this game → join a guild. it makes everything more fun, and you have a place to ask questions. since you are still leveling i suggest a social guild, but that’s just a suggestion, pick whichever you want :p.
im eu player so i dont know which server is best for you
elementalist is probably your class then, though dont be shy to try other things, it might just be you like explosions and then engineer is best for you! i never liked warrior before this game, now its my main
money making tip? okittenep telling this to people, but if you find the “unidentified dye” item, sell it on the tradepost, and just use the money to buy a color you want! another tip would be, vendor gray/white, salvage (basic kit) blue/green, and use a high tier salvage kit to salvage yellow, and if its orange, check which is worth more, the rune or the item and then salvage or sell accordingly.

i also like to add another small tip, if you complete a heart (it will make sense) it becomes a shop where you can buy lots of different things with karma (a currency you get for helping npcs out) sometimes even armor and weapons! always check :P

I can only answer 2 and 3, and you already have 2 accomplished, just a word of warning. Like others said, the Elementalist dies easily. Cloth armor and lowest starting health. You also have access to only 1 weapon set in combat, but unlike other professions, you also get access to 20 different weapon skills with that one weapon set. Never stay in one attunement. There’s more I could say, but you can just whisper me in game.

For 3, never power level a character using a profession you haven’t used before. Each one has its own play style. Also think about taking a crafting profession or two, especially if you think you are leveling too slow. Getting a crafting level gives you experience, as does collecting the ore, wood, and cooking ingredients in the game. As for making money, I suggest collecting the materials you come across and selling the ones you don’t use/need on the Trading Post. Ore, cooking ingredients, and wood. If you decide to go into crafting, I suggest carrying around a few Salvage kits and salvage everything you don’t want/use.
If you have more questions on the elementalist, advice in general, or decide to be on Borlis Pass and looking for a guild, send me a whisper. I’ll answer your questions as best I can.

My advice is on money! The most important thing in game!!!

Learn about the trading post (TP), the Black Lion company. It’s the lion head icon on your top left icons, or just press “O” to bring it up. Also, get gathering tools right away. You can get them from the merchant NPCs all over. Use them to harvest everything; trees, plants and ore. You can either save these things if you’re into crafting, or sell them. Never sell anything to a NPC merchant unless they offer a higher price than the TP. Always, ALWAYS try to sell on the TP first, as you’ll make WAY WAY more money.

Just a tip: if you craft, and save all your materials, you’ll be broke most of the time. If you choose not to craft, then you can sell stuff and make money and buy anything you need off the TP. Either way it ends up “costing” the same. What you do depends on how you want to play the game. Personally, I hate crafting, so farm gold and buy stuff. My son loves crafting so saves everything and farms nothing.

Look at sticky mentioned above about OMG if you only knew this. READ IT. You will learn a lot. There’s not much help in game. I wish i had read it before I started playing. Like really … i really, really wish i did.

  1. All NA servers are based in the same place so as long as you stick to a US server, you’ll get the same connection to all of them.
  2. Which server to choose depends on what you want to do in game. WvW (server vs server), PvP, PvE, roleplaying, or whatever all have different servers though none are official. Guilds can be joined cross server, you can join more than one guild(Though guild bonuses are , and you can play on other servers freely by guesting; so a good start would be one of the larger servers; if you already created a character you can delete it (or them if you have more than one already) to be able to transfer to another world for free.
  3. For high burst damage as a caster, you’ll want a mesmer. The class mechanic of shatters allows you to do a good amount of spike damage or you can make a good build that doesnt use shatters at all if you decide you don’t like that.

As for tips:

  • No class is made to be a tank, some can just take more hits than other, everyone needs to learn to dodge
  • Learn how to play your class, every class plays different and no class mechanic can make up for not knowing how to play. I play every class and switch characters fairly frequently, but I still have a class that I switch to when i’m having trouble that i’m better with than all the others.
  • Wait until you get into the traits (Level 11) before deciding on a class. Traiting into something can change how the class plays completely.
  • Dont be afraid to remake your character if you arnt feeling the class by around 20-ish. Leveling goes pretty fast and theres a ton of experience to go around. The last class I tried ended up becoming my main.
  • You get an extra reward for completing a map (Doing all the renown hearts, vistas, POIs and skill points in a map)
  • The starting areas are designed to have just enough experience to get you to where you need to be so if you find you’re outleveled with nothing else to do, go do some crafting or do your personal story.
  • Experience scales with your level, while you wont get as much experience for an event in the starting areas as an event in the end game areas give, even at level 80 it will still be a decent amount of experience for doing an event in queensdale (The human starting area.) So play whatever zone you want, instead of just going wherever it says your level should be.
  • While you can sell the junk that drops from mobs at early levels it’s more efficient to use a salvaging kit (Available from any in game general merchant) to salvage it, to get crafting materials.
  • Humans have the only decent racial skill (Hounds of balthazar) It’s not so good it makes or breaks a battle but just in comparison to the other races racial skills

Thats about all I can think of right now.

I just went to Tarnished Coast from another server. So my advice is come to Tarnished Coast if you still haven’t picked a server. Everyone I have met are nice, social people. We have a great pve and ro community. Best of luck.

Hi Blaze, welcome to Tyria Go to the starting areas such as Queensdale, Lion’s Arch and the towns and you might find that guilds would advertise that they are recruiting. Queensdale is also home to the (Queensdale boss train) so join them and you’ll level pretty quick. You can join up to 5 guilds! As a starting player, joining a guild is one of the best ways to meet people, get help, and makes your gaming experience MUCH more fun!
The links below is very useful for all new and experienced players!

Leveling is relatively quite easy. Basically doing almost anything will give you exp. Crafting, map exploration (such as point of interest, waypoints, vistas) reviving downed allies, gathering, doing heart quests, dynamic events, achievements (such as dailys), world vs world, jumping puzzles….
Hope you will find a good guild and meet nice people. Blackgate is a very populated server so you’ll find lots of people there.

Make sure to repair your armor. I had no idea about that for the longest time. You need to go to the NPC with the “broken heart” over them. Ask them to fix you up.
