I just started this game and would like to make some friends that dont mind helping alot when needed because i made a mesmer and its lvl 18 and i am completely lost on what to do and how to level up because its lvl 18 and its doing lvl 21 quests

All right, deep breath there! First, are you elementalist or mesmer? Those are very different professions. Second, are you on EU or NA? The two regions can’t play with each other.

Third, if by quests you mean the Personal Story, that can wait a bit while you do other things in the game. Some people never do it, or wait until they’re 80 so they can do it in an uninterrupted story flow. If you mean the hearts, some of them can be managed far below level and some are tougher. If you mean the dynamic events, just go back to a lower level part of the zone. Or even move to another race’s starting zone. You’ll be downleveled so you aren’t one-shotting everything, but it’ll still be easier.

I recommend looking at your personal story as a ‘bonus’ rather than the way to level. It gives decent experience, but not enough to level. To level I’d recommend;

- Exploring; Basicly you view every vista, do every skillchallange/heart and run by every point of interest in a map. Exploring gives you a lot of experience since almost anything you do in this game gives experience on top of that it can give you a starting buck (some gathered materials sell for quite a penny.) Look at the levelrange of a map and see if it’s something you can handle (if you’re done with your race’s starter map, go to a Lion Arch portal, there you will get portals to the other race’s starter area’s.)

- World vs World vs World; Only recommended if you actually enjoy such thing. Here servers fight vs servers, aka PvP (though in such big numbers 1 person won’t make the difference) go find a blue symbol on the map and follow it. Not the fastest way to level, but quite decent IF you enjoy PvP-like events in massive zergs.

Ofcourse do your personal story when it’s around your level range. The experience isn’t bad. Other ways to level (which I generally don’t recommend for your first toon)

- Champtrain; In the starter map for humans (Queensdale) people often farm the same few champions (with events attached) for some money/experience/I actually don’t know why. It doesn’t actually give that much xp/hour, but you can grind out a few levels if really needed. It won’t show you any good sides of the game in my opinion, so I’d avoid it.
- Meta-event farming; Basicly the same as above, but then more aimed at a few events in quick succession, not sure people still do that though.
- Dungeons; Great source for experience, however PuGs can be quite unfriendly and even kick lower levels or unexperienced people. On top of that dungeons can prove quite challanging at first. I recommend finding a guild that is willing to teach.
- Crafting; With the materials you saved up (or sold and then with the money you saved up) you might make the choice to craft, which also gives experience in this game. How-ever, once again doesn’t show you much of the game and you might leave it to an alt, but when really in need of a level, it might be an option.

Lastly, try to join a guild that fits your needs. Most servers have loads of guilds that are open to newer players and eager to help. It’s a great way to meet people and make friends, who in return introduce you to aspects of the game that might be difficult to get into on your own.

PS: After leveling everything but Engineer, I must say both Elementalist and Mesmer weren’t the most friendly classes to level, but it gets a lot better once you get a bit higher leveled. For Elementalist I’d recommend taking Arcane Shield or Signet of Earth for a bit more survivability as utilities. Mesmer I personally loved Sword as weapon with any off-hand whilst leveling, but my friends had mixed experiences, so I refrain from recommending anything on leveling a mesmer.

I’m in EU so can’t keep you company.
But to help you on the way. in this game you have a lot offreedom and many ways that make you level up. Actually, almost every thing you do in the game gives you experience just an incomplete list:
personal story
dungeons
killing foes
doing daily achievements
doing events
doing renown hearts
finding waypoints
finding poi’s
doing skillpoints
discovering new area’s
gathering crafting materials
crafting itself

So you got a lot of freedom. but you need to do more then one thing to level. Cause events dont always spawn, and cause crafting and gather materials can be expensive, you mght want to consider to change map.
You are doing level 21 hearts and stuff right?? so you are likely in a level 15-25 map. and I guess you went there after you did your first level 0-15 map??

There are 5 different 0-15 maps and 4 different 15-25 maps.
So my advise is to get some level by going to another starter map.
1: go to your home town
2: go to Lion’s arch
3: go to any other home town
4: exit to another starter map and do things there. when you have matched the difference you can return where you are

(note, the above steps are actual till this tuesday. after that Lion’s arch is getting some trouble and the travel hub is going to replaced, cause the details are a bit fuzzy still, just ask again then if you need new instructions)

My main is Ele, if you message me , I can join you , run around with you with events and such. Give you some tips of what I know. I am not the best ele, but have a good basic grasp. I like staff and it has a lot of control and you want to take on a lot of mobs at once you have to use all attunements. So messge me in game or add me, Im on SBI but guest to TC a lot.
