Thoroughly enjoying this game… I’ve been playing for about 3 days now and I’m completely addicted. I did a ton of exploring right from the get-go because it’s one of my favorite elements to any MMO/RPG/MMORPG, and when I realized the “World completion” bar I almost shxt my pants. I’ve 100% completed 5 or 6 zones now and I’m only at 14% of the world discovered O___o. The size of this game is absolutely insane and I love it.

On to my questions though;
Through my journeys I’ve mostly done questing, storyline and exploring. Completing areas for the chests and killing enemies or doing events for dailies. I’ve also already gotten my monthly box. I’m not sure how fast most people progress but I think in 3 days I’ve done pretty well. However, I’m feeling that the leveling process is a bit slow. I’m at 28 right now, have a basic understanding of game mechanics and can hold my own in the world. But knowing I’m not even halfway to the level cap makes me feel like there’s a hell of a long road ahead. Not that I don’t enjoy the exploration and experience, but I want to get up to that cap sooner rather than later. So how can I level a bit faster? Am I on the right track or should I find some other way?

You can also craft; maxing 1 crafting profession will give you about 10 levels. Also, you should WvW. Karma trains are easy experience. You probably feel it’s really slow because it’s your first toon, but believe it is quite easy. I will personally hold on to doing dungeons until you’re 80 unless of course you have friends you play with. A lot of dungeon groups ask for 80s.

So yah, exploring, living story, wvw, and crafting are what I would do.

Provided you have the gold and/or the mats on hand, you can craft all the way to 80, and I’ve heard tale people have been able to hit 80 that way in a few hours.

getting to level 28 in 3 days is actually pretty good . . There really isn’t any need to rush to 80 though . GW is a game that should be played at your own pace and not feel like you need to rush anywhere . If you’re into exploring and haven’t started work on the zone yet though i would suggest Lonars Pass , it runs from level 25-40 and covers a lot of ground which means a lot of exploration XP.

(as someone who just made 4 new characters and used an experience scroll on them, and has only made 15 levels in 5~ days, you’re doing good). Anyway, people have suggested crafting, which is the fastest way. However, if you’re just starting out, you won’t be able to effectively do it (unless you buy gems), since you need a lot of money to craft to 80, especially since they changed the crafting exp for 500 levels. When you get to level 35, you can start doing AC, which is Ascalonian Catacombs. It’s the first dungeon, and when you complete a dungeon path you get 70% of a level in exp, so you can get some quick levels that way. As stated, however, people usually ask for 80’s (but if you have friends/guild, you can ask them to help you). Just open world content alone, solo play, the next best thing is just mapping and finding any events you can. They by far are the fastest ‘mapping’ stuff for exp. Along the way, you get achievements, and some of them give experience for completing as well (daily/monthly do, not sure about the general achievements.)

Usually whenever your completing zones, 1 level=1hour. Thats about as fast as you can level, unless you craft. One crafting profession to 400=10levels. The cheapest crafting profession to max (cooking) is ~4gold. Jewel crafting being the next at ~6 gold.

One thing to bear in mind is that the levelling curve is a lot shallower in this game than most. As long as you’re mainly doing content at (or close to) your level you’ll spend about as long going from 79 to 80 as you did going from 2 to 3.

And if you’re doing content well below your level the chances are it’s by choice and you’re more interested in what you’re doing than what level you are so you won’t care.

Reaching the level cap doesn’t make a big difference in this game. There’s no new game modes or anything like that, so my advice would be to not worry about it and just focus on what you want to do. When you’re doing that you’ll probably find you level a lot faster than you expected to.

Just this shows how fast you will level. Personally, I didn’t completely finish a map until after about a month of playing. Don’t worry about the speed of levelling, at this rate you will be level 80 within two weeks. Just do what you love.

I appreciate the advice, everyone. I was actually invited to a small guild last night for being social in World vs World. Which by the way is my new favorite part of the game.

I’m level 35 now and think I’m just starting to peak that learning curve in to not needing much advice anymore.

I’m not sure at all how to craft yet but thanks to the internet I’m sure looking up how to do it won’t be very difficult.

I also haven’t done any dungeons yet but as Yen and Mystic Starfish have mentioned I’ll probably save it for level 80 unless the guild wants to do a run beforehand.
