New to GW2
In PvE most are very easy to play solo, some classes have a more annoying mechanic like engineers and mesmers.
I suggest ranger or warrior or guardian, those are really easy to level up have plenty of survivability, among the casters necromancer is also a very easy class to level solo.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
All professions (the GW2 term for class in other MMOs) are pretty good for solo play. You can really just try them out and see which one you enjoy best. The thing you really want to do is make sure you read about the combat system in GW2:

It’s pretty different from other MMOs, especially WoW.

Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, Necromancer.
These 4 are generally easier to learn GW2’s combat system with.
Working on: Engineer

I would put Warrior and Guardian in front of the list, but i also think those 4 are the best for a new player.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I agree that those 4 are easiest and therefore good to start off with, but I’d also say it’s more important to play what you enjoy.
I encouraged my husband to start with a warrior because he had never played an MMO before (and isn’t great at RPGs in general if I’m honest), and because the type of characters he usually plays are most similar to warriors, but he found the mechanics really boring and it was actually putting him off playing. He switched to a mesmer and an elementalist and although it’s more complicated he found it much more enjoyable, which made learning the game easier.
There are no professions which are impossibly hard to play solo, and they all play slightly differently so it’s a good idea to experiment and find what you like.

And i say it could also be very frustrating if you maybe like to play an Elementalist and die all the time since you first not only have to learn the mechanics of that class but you are also not common with the whole game mechanics.
Playing a not so squishy character helps in my eyes to learn first how the whole game world works. And even since some people (that never were newbies it seems) always say that everything is soooo easy, i think you can die here much easier than in any other MMO in the beginning.

Go for Warrior, even a bad one won’t get grief, unlike a Ranger that needs to be good just to be tolerated.
The only thing I would like to add is – try out all the weapons available for your profession and play around with combinations, switching weapons during the fights.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Dont pick warrior ranger guardian or necro. Those are the dumbed down/shallow classes that will bore you relatively fast.
Every class is decent enough for soloing. My advice is to go with something with a bit more depth like elementalist or engineer.
Ranger is great for solo play, because if you get downed, your pet can help you up again—I can’t count how many times I’ve been out in the wilderness and my pet has come to save my sorry a**.

I disagree. I love my Guardian and Necro. The only other class I’ve tried so far that kept me as interested as these two is a Thief.
Warrior was boring to me, though. As for Ranger, never played one.
PLEASE don’t learn how to (badly) play the game with a Ranger…..
Standing still, shooting a longbow while your pet tanks is a HORRIBLE way to learn the game mechanics you will need later in the game….like dodging and moving and NOT getting hit.

This is the equivalent of throwing the guy in the deep end and hoping he can swim. Elementalist and Engineer are the most technically difficult classes to play (constant button pressing, attunement / kit swapping, etc.). Yes, the classes are more complex, but STARTING with them is more likely to frustrate a new guy than one of the other classes is to bore him.

To be fair, as a Ranger, you don’t really need them later in the game,
