New to GW2, need some tips!
There are no Controller Supports for this game.
However, I use a program called Xpadder which allows me to emulate keyboard and mouse into the xbox360 controller.
I’ve been playing GW2 since beta with the xbox360 controller, and it’s very effective as long as your own layouts allow it to be.
=) I wish you the best.
If you wish to stick with your standard setup as I do, then I suggest remapping your keybindings to something you are comfortable with.
I use for example:
ESDF for movement
1-5 weapon skills
Q heal
WRT utility skills
A swap weapon
Shift to look behind
and so on…
If you wh me ingame i can explain you hiw i used to do it. I now bought a razer naga and the orbweaver and i am very glad that i did so.
Whisper me ig; Mortva The Occupant (eu)
I still use a mouse and keyboard, but I bought a Razer Naga MMO mouse and remapped my skills. So I have buttons 1-10 on the mouse for my skill bar, keys 1-4 on my keyboard for F1-F4 skills, and still use WQES for movement (AD sometimes, but usually I right click to adjust the direction I’m looking). Oh, and middle mouse button (or scroll button) is for dodging. This improved my performance immensely.
I remapped the A and D keys to be my strafe Left and Right keys. I use the right mouse button to turn (hold down the button). W and S to move forward and back. Q key for Healing (got that from playing too much Diablo 3). 1 – 5, 7 – 0 and F1 – F4 for skills. F key (or right click) for interact. Be sure to turn on AOE loot setting so your not going to each kill to pick up loot.

I went from a Logitech 4 button to a Razer Naga Hex to the Razer Naga 2014 Edition (12 button grid) because of the complexity of the actions our toons can exhibit.
The 2014 is about $80 and to me, worth every penny.
AOE auto loot is an absolute necessity and make sure to tweak your visual settings to allow for at least 30 FPS. In WvW or some massive boss events you will see that drop down into the single digits as the buffers deal with all the input so don’t over do the graphics when you are running through the regular environment unless you have a killer GPU. I have a MSI overclocked Radeon 7850 and can set for the highest quality selected from drop down. I can hold 60 FPS until real events start and then it drops into the 30s and even lower in WvW in some of the bigger battles but again, some of that is server lag.
I just use regular mouse (Logitech $15 wired one) and keyboard. A word of advice don’t get one of those fancy ergonomic pseudo-gaming keyboards (I tried one) because its actually very clunky and hard to get used to since they omit one or more keys that should be more easy-access..if u know what i mean. It’s probably more of a personal issue but my point is you don’t need a gaming mouse etc. I use the default bound keys, AWSD to move, tab to switch targets, ` to wep swap. I use keys 1-5 for wep skills and mouse-click my utility skills (yes I am aware thats kinda noobish :\). When on my ele switching attunements is somewhat tricky so I’ve been thinking about mapping these (i.e. F1-4) to Ctrl+QWER. You could try something similar. And when its a question of what class to pick to understand the game mechanics, the answer is almost always warrior. Many consider them the most easy to play class. solid defense, mash-1-key-to-win, brainless maneuvers.. so on. Just kidding about that last part btw :p

It takes some time to “master” the control with a keyboard and a mouse. Re-mapping is good but I’m just fine using the default key setup. About what class to use, I think Ranger is good for beginner because it allows you to range kill everything, and have a pet as meat shield, so you won’t die easily when you are clueless of what is going on. It is also fun to discover new tamable when you explore the map. Warrior is the easiest and useful class in end game, so that’s why most recommend Warrior. Enjoy your adventure.
