Hello all, I decided to dive both feet first into GW2. The game is currently downloading and I thought I would get into the forums and ask a few questions.

About me:

Seasoned MMO veteran from EQ to FFXI to Runescape to WoW to FFXIV and now to here. I am no stranger to Endgame (even though I hear this game lacks a bit of one). I am never a player that ever asks for hand outs at all. I have a few questions and if you can answer, I would appriciate it… if you don’t want to, that’s ok as well. I just ask that you don’t flame me for anything because these are sincere questions.

1) I was wondering if there were a guild out there that was able to take me in that is relatively active. It doesn’t matter if it’s endgame (preferred) or a “Just fun” guild, however I would really like it to be active and fun. I am experienced with skype, vent, mumble and team speak when it comes to talking in game. To me, I loved the personal interaction on a speaking ability while playing.

2) Which class do you think is most needed in an end game environment? I played everything from a Tank to DD to Healer. I loved a part of each, and mostly I would like to start a class that is in “demand” so that it is easier for me to fit in.

3) Would a high pop or low pop server be more friendly to a player that wants to eventually get in end gaming? Basically, I’m asking which is a more “friendlier” community. I know there are trolls in every game, but I would like to avoid them as much as possible and enjoy my game playing experience and hopefully make a few friends in here along the way.

Thank you very much, and have a great day!

1: yes, I am in such a guild. we have a site: http://thegothicembrace.com/ and we also have a facebook group. we’re on Fort Aspenwood. We PvE mostly, dungeon and end-game focus, with some hardcore WvW members. we have a private chat server. check us out. (end shameless plug)

2: all classes are useful, but just don’t ask anyone playing that class. Everyone has their place. GW2 doesn’t have a holy trinity, so everyone is more accountable for their own actions. based on your experience you will be fine regardless of your choice. When is a tough dungeon, a Guardian is an always welcome addition to a group, and they are fun to play too.

3: I’d go High Population, but its not much of an issue in the end. guesting is free, and you can play with anyone on another server if you stay out of WvW (thats for your home server only) FA has a good community and strong support. the official forums are here: http://www.fort-aspenwood.com/

and finally, welcome to the game! we hope you enjoy your stay!

Class: I think there are just some classes people dislike to add in pugs. Thing is you are mainly expected to survive and deal damage and with some classes it’s just a lot harder to survive so most people just suck with them. If you want to be welcomed to pugs don’t create a thief. Guardians are pretty great overall with great survivability and decent damage. Mesmers have some great party skills and an OP elite skill. And warriors are usually welcomed too because of their high damage.

2) As a MMo veteran that has played EQ FFXI etc you might actually have dived into the wrong game here man. This game does not have a trinity type of setup. Basically all classes are played the same way; dpsing, self management, some form of control.

Guild Wars 2 is NOT the game where you form a group based on dps, heal, tank and roll with it. I don’t mean to be negative but as I said this game doesn’t have any set classes or roles. You won’t really ever need anything special to do anything this game. You don’t need to have certain classes in a group in GW2. You can beat dungeons while having anyone being the same class in the party or whatever. There is no healers, there is no tanks there is however everyone in this game is a form of Dpser. Some classes have a little more support abilities then others but you don’t have classes that babysit you like you have in WoW. Your job is to keep yourself alive at all times while dishing out dps.

3) There isn’t any “endgame” here. Endame in GW2 consists of getting new skins, not stats like you have in games like WoW etc.

Guild is not required to do anything in GW2 they are mostly just a social hub but not anything you need to play the game.

Welcome to the game but I worry a little that you might be coming into this game with the wrong mindset and won’t enjoy it. As I said this game is NOT EQ/WoW, there is no “endgame” there is no real stat progression. This game is about exploring and enjoying the ride to max level. When you are 80 you can either WvWvW or you can farm for skins (not stats), PVP or do dungeons.
