Welcome to the game!
Let’s see if I can answer your questions:

1) the one that is most fun to you! Professions can all be specialised in very different ways, so you should just choose the one with the most fun mechanics to you. You have 5 character slots from the start, just test some out that sound interesting to you =)
2) Human, as always =/
3) Lorewise or ingame wise? Lorewise they should be equal, ingame you see more humans.
4) No, we use waypoints for instant travel and there are speedbuffs that let you run faster. We do have Plush backpacks that make you the mount for an adorable plushie though =P
5) 80. Through scaling however the game is much much less focused on endgame and a large amount of content is available to you already at low levels.

I hope that clears some of your questions and that you will stay excited ingame. Don’t hesitate to ask, people are usually very helpful in this game! Have fun =)

1) The devs are trying to make every profession balanced so it merely depends on your personal opinion.
2) 1. Humans 2. Asuras
3) Charrs aren’t seen as much unfortunately imo.
4) Not at all
5) 80 however this might or might not chance in future. There are some testing weapons that have level 98. The level says hardly anything though. It only determines how far you can go (area wise) and what items you drop.

6) On NA I would say Tarnished Coast, on Europe I’d say: Vizunah, Elona or Desolation.

Yes, it must be completely installed for playing. You’ll probably spend the first hour in character creation anyway =D

1) The only difference between professions is what you enjoy more. There is nowhere near the imbalance of some MMO’s out there and since how you customise your profession can make up for these deficiencies anyway, just pick which one you prefer the play style of.
2) Human…..as most MMO’s, but the race makes no difference other than to your personal story and how you look. There are no benefits or disadvantages to one race over another.
3) As said, Humans are the most abundant, but there’s nothing stopping you playing a Charr and quest in a human zone….you will find you will explore all the zones eventually anyway.
4) No, no mounts. There are speed buffs in the capitals and fast travel waypoints scattered throughout every land to help teleport around quickly for a small negligible fee.
5) 80. However, the way GW2 is set-up, level cap isn’t a major issue as you will always do PvP at level 80 right from day 1, and you will be down-levelled when entering lower level zones. Its a system that works well.

One last thing, ask questions. The community in GW2 is much more friendly and helpful than in a lot of other MMO’s out there because the emphasis isn’t on ganking, endgame loot or kill stealing. If you help someone, then both of you get benefits, and it shows in the general community. You will always get some idiots who are antisocial, but in general people in this game will be a lot more patient, or will just leave you to your own game at your own pace.

Enjoy, stick with it and it will be a good many hours of fun for you…there’s plenty to explore. Remember the emphasis is on fun and community here…not on powerlevelling and shiny pixels!

There still are some people that just don’t like to help or don’t have the patient for it tho, but 99% of us like to help people, here on the forum or ingame too

1. I can answer the first question a bit more detailed, than just “Whatever you enjoy.”

At this state of the game, there are very clear preferences for certain classes. Don’t let anyone tell you, that that’s not the case. Specifically Warriors, Mesmers and Guardians are preferred for more advanced dungeon groups and high level Fractals groups (which is another kind of dungeon in the game)

For World vs World there are clearly more useful classes for certain objectives as well. Even though every class has a certain use, so depending on what you prefer doing in WvW, you could pick your class. For example Mesmers are always sought after for their portaling skills and reflects, to hide in objectives and portal the zerg in and the like. Necromancers are sought after for their dark fields when taking down certain NPCs. Elementalists are sought after for their combo fields, which they can put down to give the party very helpful boons (fire for might, water for healing etc.). So if you want to know what to play for World vs World, read up on what which class is used for there and then pick the one that most suits your playstyle.

For PvP you can pretty much pick whatever you want as long as you find a working build.

All of this doesn’t mean, that you can’t play whatever you want. But it does mean, that you will have a more fun/better/easier time with certain classes doing certain things in game

Firefly is right, there are clear choices that people favour for specific roles…

What most mean by saying “pick what you want” is that the gap between what is en vogue at the moment and what is basically ignored to the point of having to re-roll is nowhere near as wide as in certain other MMO’s out there, and that for solo play or general PvE or PvP shenanigans for a bit of fun that there is very little difference, until you start getting to a fairly high level of competitiveness…

Personally, if you’re just starting out then just get the one you want to try and go with it, and you can always make a new character at some point in the future when you have more specific ideas of what you want to achieve in mind.
