New to the game
Although i don’t know wich one is the most populated, once you are in the server selection screen, you’ll see if the population is low, high, etc.
Something that it’ll be worth to mention is that “i think” that Piken server is roleplay encouraged (not sure about that) since i know some players from there and they are always roleplaying in the town.
Random tip: try all weapons, no excuse.
As example, i did choose a Warrior as main player because i wanted to use my sword against enemies. After lvl 40 i tried a bow… and then i realized how much i love the bow skills of the warrior. I tried a ranger after that but the bow skills are not that awesome for my personal taste, so i still use the bow months later instead of the sword. I’m a ranged warrior and i’d never imagine it’d turn into that when i created the character.
That’s how GW2 works, the weapon you are using determine the skills, although each proffesion got different skills for those weapons, so… that’s the better advice that i can give you as newbie: try all weapons, then choose the ones you like most.

ahh i see thanks for that
i wasn’t sure which would be popular servers as Tera had distinct population differences.
I’ll have a nose when it finishes installing and patching xD
but thanks anyway !
Ahhh I’ve never tried the roll play servers in games so i think i’ll pass for now xD or i’ll be forever known as Sir Noobinging of House Noob or some kind of Game of Thrones strange reference like that xD
I saw lots of that on Youtube with people saying about experimenting with weapons and trying out ideas . I usually pick classes the Dps magic class like Tera’s Sorc or Diablo 2’s Necromancer but i wasn’t sure about how melee weapons would affect that.
cheers though !
Magic dps class in here it’s likely the elementalist. There’s also a necromancer but it’s not in such a good shape as elementalist and seems harder to master with a perfect build. Anyway, as i just said, it’s almost as important (or more) the weapon that you are using than the class that you are using, since it determines your skills.
About servers, just choose 1 and if you don’t like it you can just delete your character and try another server (as long as your account has 0 character, transfering to another server is free).
P.S. I never roleplay either, but there’s only 1 spanish server, so i didn’t have a choice to wich server to choose when i bough the game xD

ahh i think i’ll stick to the simpler option for now then till i get a better understanding of the game and it’s mechanics. Does the game feature the standard builds such as “glass cannon” etc ?
ahh thanks for that ! Makes sense to wander around servers till I find one I like…. I probably should of thought of that in the first place xD
ahh kitten games with their languages being picky, that’s the joy of being English everyone has to suffer your language xD
Well, the game got their different words for it but the standards are around. Guardians are usually tanks, but almost every class could do it as well, as same as happens to healers. As glass cannon builds there is one big famous “zerker” class, wich is berzerkers to do big insane damage but they need to trust into dodges and blocks to survive instead of a big pool of health.
You’ll have to test wich build you like most, since this game features “dodge”. A dodge can literally block any damage from the game, even instakill hits from enemies to conditions or areas. A dodge can be easily triggered by pushing W twice (or A, D, S, Q, E…) As long as you time it perfectly, a dodge can save you from all damage.
Notice that dodges consumes stamina, a yellow little bar above your health… so you need to try yourself if you can time the enemy skills to dodge them. If you can’t then get a little more health, if you can dodge then you can get a build with a little bit more dps. You get it, right?

ahhh that’s really helpful thank you !
Is there any good website or wiki pages where you can look at popular builds or test ideas before making them ?
ahh that’s good, nice simple dodge mechanic thanks again
http://www.gw2build.com/ however a re-balance is expected in 3 days with an update to the game, it has been confirmed a 10% critical damage reduction and more other skills changes so… not sure how much u can trust actual builds.

ahh so for now its anyone’s guess xD
thanks for all the help though !
Piken isn’t roleplay – I don’t know where people get that from. I’ve never met anyone ‘being weird’.
The game is designed without the ‘holy trinity’ of Healer Tank DPS, All classes (professions) are more-or-less able to do all three. Choosing a profession is more a matter of personal choice about play style. Within limits you can then make it as tanky, heal-ly or DPS-y as you like.
Piken Square is the unofficial EU RP server, however, as someone who plays on Piken Square, I would say don’t let that put you off it as a server. It is well populated, and in general the population is friendly (you still get a few bad apples running the Queensdale train who think that no one else has the right to start a Champion event, but they are best ignored). Even in the less populated mid level zones you will normally come across a few other players out and about. As far as the Role Playing goes most of it is done with in guilds and if you leave them alone they will leave you alone.
Like others have said play around with characters and weapon sets before deciding what to stick to, unlike some games, there is a good choice of ranged or melee for for most classes, it is possible to build a good ranged guardian or a melee ranger. You start with 5 character slots and more can be bought with gems. Gems can be bought with normal currency (Pound Sterling or Euros) or in game gold so it it fairly easy to get 8 slots so you can have one of each class to try out.
One piece of advice, if you see an event going on mention it in map chat and link the nearest waypoint, (press control while clicking on the waypoint on your minimap will list it in chat). Particularly for champion events (the boss’s picture has a gold surround and crossed swords), doing this will mean that others in the are know where some thing is happening and will often come to help out.
Welcome to the game and hope you have fun.
