Hi!

My friends and I are switching over from WoW, and I happened to be the first who downloaded the game, so Ive been tasked with finding a realm for us.

Firstly, we are all playing from Pakistan, so it’ll be a European server. What I’ve found out so far is that all of the EU servers are located in France, so choosing a realm on its location isn’t an issue now.

I’ve deduces so far that all regions are basically one big server. But we are looking for a specific server for guild and WvW purposes.

TLDR: Newbies from Pakistan, what realm do we take. Thanks.

Check out the current leaderboards for WvW either on the GW2 site or at this external site – http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups/ and chose based on your preference.

Personally I’d say join Aurora Glade as it’s the server I’m on and we rock but we’re not top tier so if you want that sort of thing then Seafarers Rest or Desolation would be more for you.

Hmm thanks for the info. One question though, how does realm population affect gameplay. I read up on the guesting feature, I can play somewhere till I get a spot in my own realm, which is pretty sweet. But are there any drawbacks to a highly populated server? All I can think of is high WvW queue time.

Some people dislike the large amount of people around them and prefer to run in smaller groups, which I believe are more prevalent on low tiered servers like the one I’m on. If someone who plays high tier could clarify that would be ace as I only really have second hand reports.

But yes you will have a larger queue time on more populated WvW servers.

Heya mate, thanks for taking the time to provide us with this useful information, I am one of the guys starting here and very much appreciate the information you have provided us with, just a random question though, you said you are on Aurora Glade, what is the average queue times on that realm, or is there any queue at all? I think if its a relatively populated (not overpopulated) and no queue times, I think we might be setting our feet in this realm then, since I have heard about the long queues on t1 realms and even hour or more long WvW queue times there, I believe Aurora might not be a bad choice. Also the kitten t3 etc realms are mostly based on WvW rankings right? nothing to do with pve n pvp? (ofc not WvW).

If you are all new then the ideal server choice would be somewhere in the middle. On the other hand those ranks are not static things. Both Desolation and SFR have been at lower positions before and Vizunah Square was #1 for a fairly long time.

Server choice only really matters for WvW because of megaserver. Guesting doesn’t make much of a difference anymore. You could guest to a server and still end up on the same instance.

PvE is basically all servers from the same region(NA/EU) merged. Same for sPvP. Server choice in PvE just means you are more likely to end up in an instance with more people from the same server.

Hey Tofy,

Queue times on AG are low. We usually only queue when there are events happening or on reset nights on home borderland and Eternal Battlegrounds. Queues are usually around 20 people max so takes around 20 – 30 minutes max.

Yeah the tiers are all based on WvW rankings.
