Hello. I registered today and are going to start playing now. However, i was wondering if my server choice matters at all? I was a bit scared when it said i have to pay to change server…

There is a feature called “Guesting”. You can “visit” other servers for free, and play there on your own or with friends, except that you can’t participate in the server’s WvW. More info: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guesting#Guesting

The only thing to think about is if you’re big into pvp or you know about wvw, you may want to pick a better wvw server if thats your ultimate goal.

Also high population you can guess more ppl will be doing end game temples in curses shore, etc.

Only thing that really matters is that.

I went with EU Desolation. I hope it was an ok choice.

Is the server down or something right now? I can log in but everything is sort of frozen, nobody is moving.

Hi, I was on Desolation EU for a while and think you have made a good choice! I only moved (to Gandara EU) to be on same server as my friends. I still often guest on Desolation to do Orr events ect and it is always really busy.

Can’t comment on server being down though.

Am i supposed to take a crafting or is that later? I have some crafting related items in my inventory but the game has not said anything about it yet.

Also, how do i find guild and chat channels?

1. Wait on crafting for now (imho). However, equip a basic sickle, axe and pick to gather as much as you can now. TIP: click the “gear” icon in the top right of your inventory and deposit collectibles (nice way to keep bag clean).

2. /g or /guild will put you into guild chat. /s for say – I use this if I die and someone is rezzing me… ( a quick /s ty) is nice when someone runs over to help out.

3. I think (could be wrong) that confusion is a damage-over-time (DoT) and daze in an interrupt.

Ok, but where do i buy this axe and etc? And how do i track crafting ores for example?

Most merchants (npc’s with floating coin icon over their heads) sell the harvesting tool appropriate for the map you are in. There are grades of harvesting tools that allow you harvest higher level materials when in higher level maps.

Not sure what you mean by ’tracking ’ ore .. The ore node appear on you mini-map as little triangular silver looking things. Harvest trees are logs, and plants are little green leafy icons.

Once you harvest something, it sit in your inventory until you ‘deposit’ it in your main storage bank. You do this selecting the ‘deposit all’ from the little gear icon in your inventory.

Once you arrive at a craft station, you can then access your main storage bank ,and you will see all the materials you have collected in there.

Daze prevents you from using skills.
Confusion causes you to take damage whenever you use a skill. The more stacks of confusion you have the more damage you take per skill use. 1-3 stacks is usually still safe to attack through but more than that you probably want to stop attacking or remove it first.

When you deposit crafting items to the bank they end up in a separate tab in your bank.

Are you using wired or wireless internet connection? When I first installed the game my PC was connected wirelessly to the internet and I couldn’t get the game to work for more than 30 seconds before it crashed and crashed my internet connection too. Since connecting with an ethernet cable its been fine. this may well not be the case with you but thought it might help.

That sounds like an overly restrictive firewall …
