Hey there everyone,

I’ve sent in a ticket asking if there was a way to change my character’s name. The answer was no, however the GM answering my question said to share this idea in the forums so the dev team could take it in consideration.

So please, let us change our nicks anyhow, in the future.

Here’s the answer I’ve got from GM Onyx,

I have the same issue.

Asked the following question:

“I wanted to know if it’s possible to change the name of your character or will be sometime in the future ? Maybe via online payment or gemstore ?”

Got the same reply as you, so here’s me answering and hoping they take a look into this issue.

I would like this feature, as well. Despite getting online within seconds of the realms coming up, I didn’t get any of the names I wanted. I later managed to snag one, but I had already put 20 levels into a main. I’d pay for it as needed… Please add this!

My best suggestion is to get the name you want at character creation so you dont have to go to all that trouble. Wouldnt you agree?

I would have to imagine they will have a name change service eventually.

Agreed, but I think many if not most of us at some point have picked a name we thought was fine at the time, but later on thought otherwise. (Plus many probably created a name just to get started then later when that char has progressed, kinda regretted it).

So hopefully this is something they will add pretty soon.

I definitely would like this feature. When I had made my toon, I was not aware that I could use more than one word in my name, which greatly reduced my choices.

There’s a good chance it could be implemented in the future, as the feature exists in GW1 shop. It wasn’t available at release however, it came out further down the line. So hang in there!

I’ll place bets they will allow name changes in the future that you can purchase with gems. They have other things to work on right now, so I doubt it’s high on the list.

Is it true there can be only one character with each name in the whole set of worlds?

Or are names unique only to the world you rolled on?

In a different game, when you wanted a character name change, you could transfer to a shard where you (or someone) already had a character with your name, and you’d be prompted to select a new one. And then, after the waiting period, transfer back. With GW2’s guesting, you’d hardly notice you were gone!

Exactly.

I would be much obliged if this was an option (even paying or not).
The name I wanted was already taken seconds after pre-launch access (I was in 5 minutes after the servers opened).
So I had to pick the first name and add a surname… In my haste I took something rather difficult for guildies to spell :p

Nice idea. I have no desire to use it, but I might later on, for RP purposes or whatever else.

I am eagerly awaiting the availability of this service – so I may change my character’s name.

I really need to change my toons name. I even asked one of my guildmates to report my name. Anyone know how that system works? I really don’t want to be band for trying to change my name.

For someone who didn’t know that you could give a last name to your character at the start, I fully agree

afaik yes, names are global across all servers (confirmation needed tho)

Yes add this in! just put a item you buy for gems in the store.
Would also be nice in the future to have an other item you buy that make you able to change your character face, body, hair etc all that stuff
(not to be able to change race/class ofc)

There will more than likely be an item in the gem shop to change character and/or guild names at some point, most MMOs have this I dont see why not.

+1 for this, add this arenanet!, looks like it would make you a lot of money.

It would be a good addition to the game. I have a couple of friends who regret the names they chose, but don’t want to lose the characters.

(+1 on this) I don’t hate the name that I have pick but I just went with my own name and that could be a safety issue also, it’s kinda lame to go with your own name. At the time I just wanted to play the game and not think of a character names but now I regret it.

Much like the makeover kits, they did this in the original Guild Wars, so I wouldn’t doubt that they will do it again in GW2.

Sorry to necro this, but I too would love a Name change feature, I would even use diamonds. Get on this devs, you are missing out on sweet delicious monies.
