No focus on objectives or communication in the zerg fest PvP
Yes,
solution: enlarge borderlands by a factor of 3
make swiftness only apply to your group
=
you will get roaming groups instead of 150 people attacking everything on their way including critters.
No it is not just you. Both spvp and WvW are zerg fest. Pvp is really lacking in this game.

Obviously you haven’t played much PvP
Just because there are Zergs in WvW doesn’t mean that’s all it is.
Whenever a Zerg happens my friends and I use that as an advantage to take supply camps or destroy caravans
I’ve played plenty of WvW and there’s tons of strategy and communication involved in the chat.
Its incredibly boring to attack caravans/camps after a while because you dont gain anything wheter you win/lose the battle.
I wasn’t really meaning the WvW, I’ve only done a few hours of that up to now, I was mainly referring to the 4 conquest battlegrounds/warzones (sorry I don’t know the correct terminology for this game).

I have been pvping for over 15 years and compared to other games where pvp is available Gw2 is severly lacking…
I think people are not understanding that he is talking about Conquest which is the sPvP not the WvW.
Spreading is more viable than just zerging around, mainly because a zerg can only hit 1 location at the time while the other team can delay the zerg with 1-2 guys and have the rest constantly capping the other 2 points.
Remember that sPvP tournaments are 5v5 while the normal sPvP is 8v8.

Exactly because you’re just constantly comparing GW2 to all the other PvP games you’ve claimed to play.
I was just surprised as I thought this game was going to be the PvP system for PvPers so I expected the sPvP battlegrounds to be quite strategic affairs not the random running around capping a losing bases.
The battles I’ve been in lack even basic concepts of strategy e.g. where there are 3 bases on a map, cap 2 and defend them using /team to co-ordinate reinforcements between the bases as required.
I love the look of the game and the wide variation of character modification (traits and skill sets etc.) but the PvP is a big dissapointment for me atm.
The metagame is still young. Every pvp game ive ever played had underwhelming pvp. This is because pvp largely depends on the ingenuity of the players in order to become “fun”. As of now, we are all noobs, so we all play sPvP like noobs (zergfest). Once the meta matures, you’ll see a lot of more complex strategies.
GW1 went through the same growing pains. Just give it time, the game just got out and the meta is still very immature.

I’ve played a ton of PVP since the prerelease and it’s really not very good. WVW completely depends on your server and is completely unbalanced right now. It’s really not even worth doin on some servers because you will never make it past your front gate.
I hardly ever see this… :S
People I play with, even the randoms are always really good at getting their points and defending…
Since ppl claim to have played a ton of PvP lets just list what PvP we’ve done:
Warhammer: Age of Reckoning;
Januk Monkeydoodle – Squig Herder – <Perish> – Karak Norn
Lvl1 (RR1) – Lvl 40(RR93) Tons of zergin but also ALOT of tiny groups breaking off taking other objectives.
So compared to Warhammer this game is not lacking in PvP considering it’s free for all 3 servers compared to Warhammers 2 faction system like “every other” MMO… Now I never played Daoc but I wish I had..
I was talking about WvW btw.
Januk Monkeydoodle: 80 Engi
Knowledge is your friend: 1 of every class for sPvP except Ele.
I do feel as if the sPvP is really lacking also. It can be fun at times, but overall I feel that the maps are kind of too small. Remove the sharks from Capricon(???)… non-objective based NPCs in there… is really stupid. They are bugged out a lot of them time anyways.
Even though the sPvP is hot-joinable, I think there needs to be some sort of encouragement for staying the entire duration of the match, rather than leaving once your team starts losing.
Prompt users at the end of a match if they’d like to leave… match usually only last a few minutes anyways, which is in and of itself kind of another complaint. Matches don’t last very long, so the PvP seems to get dull really fast because you get the same 4 maps really quickly, since each match is so short.
But back to the leaving sPvP matches… So many times it happens like this:
A new match begins… 6 or so players on each side. Team Red quickly manages to capture all 3 nodes, 3 people leave from Blue team because they don’t want to try to win. Auto-balance… and 3 players who started on Red get moved to the losing team. Why do they get moved?
I dunno, but it gets old really quick. People can pull the whole.. “go back to WoW u dumb kid!”, but I’ve done BGs in WoW for over 4 years… I’d say I have over 500k HKs, and yeah they are kind of boring now… I’ve spent so much time in them. Even GW1 “BGs” were more fun than GW2 ones.
I’ve been MMOing since EQ, and have never been so hyped for a new game until GW2, just to bet let down by the sPvP.
As far as WvW… Why can’t we see enemy names? Is there any real reason for this?
