No gold?!
Sometimes twitch streamers get donations that they give away during their stream and that’s why they have so much.
Me? I used to run CoF p1 to get gold, and occasionally convert gems into gold. I too have no clue about farming or flipping. It seems like anet tries to keep us from farming by giving reduced rewards from repetitive actions (ie: doing one dungeon path multiple times). As for flipping, it seems like a gamble to me, but I’m not very familiar with it.
Especially with increased crafting prices now, I wish Anet would make it a little easier to make gold. Perhaps increasing loot or letting us farm.
I’ve currently got ~300 gold in my account. It’s a bit low at the moment because I’ve been gearing a new 80 character.
Quite honestly, it’s just a matter of being careful. I make no special effort to collect gold. In fact, since I spend most of my time in WvW and don’t do any dungeons or events, I actually make very little.
Probably it’s just the fact that I’m not interested in Legendaries and skins and suchlike – there’s nothing I want to buy so I don’t spend it
As you said “barely manage to keep 10 at a time!” Well first don’t spend it like it’s burning a hole in your bank. What the heck are you spending it on? Let me guess, gems. Or maybe crafting a legendary or other costly item.
Second find an activity that you can earn gold faster than you seem to spend it. Dungeon speed runs, champ zerg loops, TP niche to exploit.
RIP City of Heroes
As being said, I am spending my money all the time as well, but that doesn’t mean I don’t make money easy. I’m hunting for my legendary (sunrise) and have been spending all mymoney on it. Cause I tend to spent money on the wrong things, I have been spending it in small bits. It took me bout 2 weeks to get 100 icy runestones (so that means I basicly got 100 gold in two weeks times) and I got my 95 charged lodestones in bout 5-6 weeks (bout 230 gold).
So the trick is to stop spending money.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
There are many different ways.
However it all comes down to how much time you have and want you want to do. I usually get around at least 1g/day from gathering. That doesn’t even include any of the extras like unidentified dyes or gems from mining.
Even before the 1g+ dungeon rewards change I would average about 2g/run(this was in CM and without any MF or GF). 100g would take a bit under 2months if that was the only thing I did.
If you have a pile of extra skill points on a character you can also make some gold with that through those but it is worth keeping in mind that they will be adding skills in the future and those will probably require skill points so you shouldn’t burn through all of it.

The good thing is that on the other hand at the moment you can earn around 1g every 10 minutes just with harvesting wood
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

This is a bit of a fallacy. If gold is easier to make then more people have more gold. But the price of crafting material is based on supply and demand, there’s no place to go buy them for a fixed price. Therefore, if more people have more gold all that happens is that the price of the materials will rise.
Instead, we should ask for recipes to be changed (less wood / plank), resources to be increased (more trees for farming), or better drop rates (more T6 materials).
Set a goal for yourself and don’t spend money as you get it. Soon enough you’ll see the money pile grows pretty quickly if you aren’t buying fancy stuff every chance you get. I never ran CoF, played the TP, sold gems, etc. and I was still able to save up 600g for my precursor (albeit over about a year).
It’s doable with a goal and self control :P

That has it’s own problems in the long term.
Once enough people are done with their ascended stuff the demand is going to drop again.
Also keep in mind that their goal is to make the rewards for everything to be equal. So in theory if there was a rare drop from a mob or even not so rare(fine material) you could go farm the mobs yourself for the item or you could go around chopping trees and sell the logs to buy the item. It would take more or less equal amounts using either method.

What problems? I can’t see any right now. (Sorry for the constant edits, I’m all thumbs right now.)
Well, adding more gold for more things certainly isn’t going to solve anything. Too much demand chasing too little supply. As a WvW player, I scoff at the notion that there is a serious effort to balance rewards.
It seems to me like rewards are given to balance play across the game. World bosses are boring – no one does them, give better rewards. No one kills champs – give better rewards. But people play WvW so no need to incentivize that. Too many people run COF p1, nerf the rewards. etc.
I think how much gold you have depends on how you like to play.
For instance, my son never has much gold, but he saves ALL the mats he harvests because he likes to craft and will use the weapons and armor that he crafts, so he doesn’t need a lot of gold.
On the other hand, I hate crafting, so other than the one weekend I spent maxing all my crafts to get APs, I sell absolutely everything I get. I also enjoy the Frostgorge champ train run and make a bucket-load of gold from salvaging all my loot. Two nights ago, in an hour and a half in Frostgorge, I got 2 exotics and 4 rares, plus other T6 mats, ending up with 12g (typically it will net about 6g per hour). Then I buy anything I want rather than craft it. I had 2g about 3 weeks ago after outfitting a new level 80 character. With champ farming and the occassional Scarlett and temple events, I’m up to over 150g.
I’d probably have over 200g if I had never spent anything (I’ve converted gold to gems several times now to get things like transmutation crystals, a new char slot, primeval armor and other stuff).
Most of that gold have come so far from world bosses, killing them salvaging the rares I get and selling the sigil/runes and globs of ecto that come from it. Also invasions resulted in a bit of extra gold last month (never really got good enough at gauntlet to do any of the farms). Gold just slooooowly comes around by playing, and I rarely spend it.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
I was like yourself for quite a while wondering how everyone got rich..
I’ve opened over 800 champion bags and haven’t had a single exotic, so I’ve given up all hope on that front of making cash. Though, I started getting cash by farming resources in the node-heavy zones like Blazeridge steps, Timberline Falls and Straits of Devastation. A single small area run can yield upwards of 1g. Best of all, the nodes reset every hour so you can practically chain farm them if you have the patience for it.
I wouldn’t suggest it, though.. recently a rich guildy managed to get 2 precursors in 100 rare stave gambles in the mystic forge which made me want to gamble myself.
I spent my last 9g on rare shields and no word of a lie I got a precursor on my very last shot. The Chosen sold for 350g overnight. If you wish to take the risk by all means, but chances are you won’t profit unless really lucky.
Just make sure to do your daily and monthly always. You can spend 1 laurel (1 daily) to get a heavy crafting bag which contains a few t6 materials which will net you around 50 silver/day.

What problems? See Silk Scraps and Thick Leather Sections. For a while in the past, Ancient Bones.
As for WvW the upcoming stuff with the leagues seems to be trying to address some of that. I assume the rewards from those are only for people who participates in WvW. If not things are going to be nasty.
I’m going to second the Frostgorge champ farm. Now that people aren’t doing Scarlet and the pavilion, frostgorge is your best bet.
Just like in the real world, in order to gain resources your income has to exceed your outgoings. I’ve always had problems accumulating gold because I’m a sucker for expensive dyes but so rarely seem to find them myself and, though I’ve been playing since launch, I’ve never found a precursor or anything that could net me any large sums.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Quick dungeons like AC (around 3 gold in 30 mins if you have a good team) and Gw2 nodes is great(google it) for orichalcum and ancient wood farming… you can get about 10 gold a day from this if you repeat on all of your charachters once a day
Sell all crafting materials. Crafting is pretty much useless. Ascended Weapons only give 9 extra main stat, 6 in secondary stats (or 1% crit damage) and a 3% or so increase in weapon damage
Use dungeon tokens/wvw badges for armor/weapons.
Champ farm in Frostgorge (hitting all 6 champs twice can get you like 3 gold real quick)
Dungeon runs
It’s not too hard to make gold. I’ve got about 250 gold and have been hovering around there for a while because I’ve been spending a bit more lately
I haven’t had a lot of time to play lately, so what I’ve been doing is crafting for profit (SHUDDER) by doing this:
1) search gw2spidy.com by craft for items that I can craft + sell at a profit with reasonably high turnover (i.e., demand is in the 100s or 1000s with lower supply)
2) buy supplies, craft a bunch of these items, and post them before I go to work
3) come home, collect earnings and craft/post another batch of currently profitable stuff, post it
4) in the morning, collect earnings from the previous night and start over
Not the most lucrative way of making money, but I can usually earn about 8-10G per day in profits by doing this. I made about 50G this past weekend via this method with a little more play time.
How much you can accumulate easily is very dependent on how many characters you are currently needing / trying to “gear up”. I have 8, so I plan to be cash poor for a long time.

I dont get this, you generally must be a bad player. I started playing 2months ago have only 300hrs play time but have 76gold. I was lucky at the start i managed to have 8 gold by level 14 on my 1st character by selling holographic dragon wings on the tp. But the rest of the gold has been got farming and selling mostly everything.
I would class myself as a noob player, ive only played AC dungeon no other ones. I have 3 other characters all about level 10 yet i have 70 gold and you cant get by 10.
I never get more than 30 gold…but thats cause I have 3 bank tabs and 11 character slots. Ive earned atleast 100-200 gold total. But I dont farm or anything.
You can do 10 dungeons per day minimum will give you 1 gold…
So if you do 10 dungeons per 10 days you will get that 100 gold that you want..

This is typical of a player that is only SPENDING gold on 1 character. Earning gold isn’t usually a problem, but SAVING it up can be if you are gearing up a number of characters along the way.
