Noob armor question
If I were you I’d save up all your money/karma for when you hit 80 and just take useful drops as they come. maybe hit the trading post every now and again if something gets really outdated.

When I am playing low level characters I tend to upgrade armor every 5-6 levels with armor from the tradepost, just because it is cheap. At about 39 I start upgrading every 10 levels as the costs go up. I save all my karma for my level 80 characters for temple gear (mainly accessories).
I agree with the above. On my first character, I didn’t realize what the level 80 karma gear would cost in karma, and I had blown most of my karma leveling on gear from the hearts and crafting mats, haha. The next time around I saved all my karma and it made getting the exotic gear at 80 much easier. You can survive just fine with the drops and the occasional trading post buy.
Edit: however, if you simply like the looks of some of the heart sets, go ahead and buy it. I mean you can’t give up looking cool, lol.

Appreciate the feedback.

Yeah,I only play one character so I’m thinking about spending the karma on armor sets that look cool and have decent stats.
Grinding for level 80 gear will keep me active.
Thanks for your input.

Buy gear every 5 levels (or even more frequently) from the trading post. If you do it right, it costs you just a few copper.

Thanks for that link Solandri.9640.
Seems the best way to go when leveling up is to buy and sell at the trading post and save karma for level 80 like you and others advised.
Again thanks for the information.
Well, selling the gear you bought from TP back on TP can work. It’s just that most people either can’t do math or don’t understand how the TP’s fees work. When you sell something on TP, there’s a 5% listing fee subtracted, then an additional 10% transaction fee. So you only get 85% of the price you sell an item for on TP.
Most people don’t understand this, so money you get selling most things on TP is actually less than what you’d get selling the item to an NPC. That’s why I recommended buying stuff you can sell to an NPC.
There are exceptions of course. A lot of rare or exotic gear, you can actually sell on TP for a profit when you’re done using it. You just have to be very patient. Place a buy order instead of buying it immediately. Then when you’re done with it, place it for sale instead of selling it immediately. If there’s more than a 15% difference between those prices, you’ll make a profit. (And if you can master this, you won’t ever have to worry about money in the game again.)
Best way to handle gear is to buy blues from the TP every 3-5 levels and then vendor it for almost as much as you paid.
