First answer: WvW is not for the faint hearted and there is no easy way to success

Having said that you allready acknowledged the first important thing and that is that you should stick to the zerg. There is no shame in hiding in the zerg and learning!

So from that point I can only share my WvW experience and what I do.
When I play WvW I play my elementalist in a staff. The ele is hard to level, but if you do, I have good results with a staff+sginet build using the ‘written in stone’ trait. You can use the staff for speed to catch up with the zerg when you fall behind. Both fire and earth attunements make you do pretty nice AoE damage when you are trying to kill a gate or a keeplord. When defending you have alos a nice range of AoE damage to make the attackers at you gate flee away for a moment (it takes time to learn the right spots, but it is possible at most keeps to cast the AoE skills from a top of the walls, you jsut need to find them), last off al you can make som very good zerg heals with the water range of skills.

As I said this build works great in a zerg. But keep in mind that you are as an ele very squishy. the written in stone trait and signets helps a lot but you still need to hide in the zerg.

A good WvW player doesn’t stand out in the zerg, he uses the zerg to hide and strike where it is needed the most. The ele does thatbest in my opinion. But prolly many people have different opinions :P

In the end all classes are good in both pvp, pve and wvw, it just takes time to learn them

Arise, ye farmers of all nations
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Ranger is probably the weakest class in WvW so it’s no surprise you get killed.

Despite what many people try to suggest, running with the zerg is not some sort of cowardly, underhand trick, it’s actually the point of the game.

Actually killing isn’t important. What you want to look for is control. If you can stop or disable opponents, your zerg-mates will kill them for you. That gives you the freedom to spec for toughness and vitality, which will keep you alive. You still get the loot bags whether you land the killing blow or not.
One of my characters is a Guardian. He hits like a soggy lettuce leaf but is virtually unstoppable and chills or immobilises everything that comes within a mile. He makes a wonderful spearhead.

Necro or Ele sound like your best choices though.

Warrior Longbow/Sword+Axe is fun.

Guardian Staff/Greatsword is also good.

You will get plenty of kills with both.

Warrior and Guardian are by far the most played of all the classes in WvW because they have the most survivability.

You could well end up dieing a lot as a Necro or Ele until you get more experience of WvW, stick to the ‘heavies’ well learning.

Yup try this advice. Everyone in GW2 can range and the warrior’s longbow is some of the best.

Like mentioned above, ranger is quite weak compared to others in the zerg, its more of a roamer.
