Just wondering if I should be saving Karma and what exactly I should be saving it for. And just other small tips. My main is a lvl 10 Charr warrior.
If you want a legendary, save all the karma you can. Otherwise, you can save karma for certain types of exotic armor and accessories at lategame.

dont bother saving karma on a new character. spend it on whatever you want wherever you want. you will not have fun if you are a new player and you start worrying about a legendary
Spend it on upgrades from quest vendors. Later on you’ll get plenty more, and if you do the daily you’ll never really run out.
Also, don’t even bother with a legendary unless if you’re masochistic.
Spend the points if it’s an upgrade, like Kagato said, you’re going to have the kitten pouring out of every orifice. Or something like that.
Take the time to do the daily achievement as often as you can and you should have plenty of karma while leveling to spend it freely, and still have plenty of leftovers at level cap for everything except perhaps legendaries – that’s a unicorn that I don’t chase.
My advice is:
Do not spend karma to buy regular gear. You can buy harvesting tools, salvage kits from normal vendors for gold. You can either craft similar / better weapons, armor, jewelry yourself or buy them at very reasonable cheap prices from the Black Lion Trading.
I use karma to buy:
1. Breathing masks (you cannot craft these yourself)
2. Food ingredients (if you are into cooking, this is a must, crafting special foods and eating them gives you more experience points and very useful bonuses, you should never play without any consumables, they just make the game much more easier)
3. Level 80 exotic armor with superior runes. One piece of level 80 exotic armor costs 42k karma and is sold at the different temples of Ruins of Orr, when those temples are are not contested. In my opinion some of the runes and armors sold there are the best in the game, so it is worth saving your karma to get those armors when you reach level 80.

I’ve been saving almost all my karma to get exotic armor when I get to level 80 and to start on a legendary weapon after that.
I’m also saving all the jugs etc. of liquid karma I get so I can use them while I have a bunch of karma boosts up and get the maximum benefit from them.
I mainly use drops and personal story rewards for armor and weapon upgrades and it’s worked fine so far (level 50-something on my main, I don’t remember exactly). I did buy a new breathing mask with karma and occasionally cooking ingredients but that’s it.
Karma is indeed important for those lvl 80 exotics and legendaries but you can gather enough by doing your dailies
Also, save the bottles till you get an karma boost so you can gain more from those bottles
As for gear while leveling, my guardian lvl 65 has never bought any gear. The only thing i got from the Trading Post are some bags, so i could collect more when i’m out exploring Tyria
And those bags are paid with gold/silver, not Karma
the karma you get at early levels is not that much, it’s a very small amount, feel free spending your karma at w/e you like (unless you’re a chef) until you’re about lvl 50.
You’ll need it later but honestly youll gain about 80k karma by the time you get to 80 which in the long run ends up being a drop in the bucket. So spend it if you want, but if you’re looking to upgrade gear just buy it from the tp.

I handle the karma two different ways. Some Karma is earned as you do things and some karma is in containers and can be stored in the bank, such as karma jugs.
Karma that was earned I spent on whatever I needed as I went along.
I saved the karma jugs in a stack in the bank. Then I used karma boosters, food, banner, etc to maximize the karma earned from the the jugs and opened just enough jugs to have enough karma to buy karma armor in orr when a character reaches 80. That gave me a full set of exotic armor right away. That saves me the gold it would cost to purchase a set of exotic armor.
A friend on the other hand, played ascalon catacomb dungeons enough to get the tokens for a full set of armor for his level 80.
There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum that has some useful hints in it.
Thanks all. I was looking at the legendaries and while it seems difficult and time consuming, I want to get one. I really do not see anything to spend it on right now anyways. However, I do notice that you never really need to buy any gear (i’m level 15 now) you mainly just pick it up from drops…. How long before you actually need to start looking for some quality gear? When I can start running AC?

Personally, I’d recommend using on-level blues all the way to level 80, at which point I’d recommend investing in greens or (if you can afford them) rares. From there, you can start working on exotics. If you decide to dungeon a lot before 80, greens might be worthwhile.
You can run AC story mode at level 30. AC explorable, which gives tokens, can be started at 35. Both modes can be difficult at level, especially if you haven’t gotten the hang of dodging and staying mobile in battle, but it can be done.

That’s what I had in mind, to use level blues until 80. A friend told me the dungeons on here are crazy hard, especially compared to WoW, which I really like because it gives you a challenge and not half sleeping your way through dungeons.

A lot of the difficulty depends upon your group- coordination and awareness matter here much more than stats. You need to pay attention to the boss’s attacks and be able to focus fire on called targets.
Who you run with makes a massive difference as well. Dungeons are usually best done with people you know, and people who know what they’re doing. I’ve done flawless (no wipes, no deaths, less than five downs) runs with my guild, and a few days ago, successfully three-manned AC path 1 with two good friends. In contrast, I’ve run with PUGs that wipe on the first room over and over. To be bluntly honest, I’d rather take a level 35 who pays attention and tries to learn strategies over a full-exotic 80 who insists on graveyard zerging (thank god they took that out) and never dodging, ever- player skill/attitude matters that much.
The only thing I spend Karma on before 80 is the Pirate vendor in the jump puzzle of Lion’s Arch each time I hit level 40. They are about 9K Karma and they are yellow level 40 weapons with a pretty cool look.

My main just hit level 57 today and the only armor I’ve ever bought is 1 breathing mask. All the rest has been drops and the odd crafted piece (but only if I happen to make something useful while levelling crafting).
At the moment I can’t see any reason not to continue this system right up until 80, then actually pick the look and stats I want and buy it with gold/karma/dungeon tokens.
