I feel like a noob but I’m confused with the game.. I’m currently playing a human elementalist and I was doing the tasks/quests and it seems like im always underleveled. At one part its like “recommended level 6” so I grinded to get a level which took long because I did most of the random tasks. Then the next quest (main quest) says recommended level 8.. Am i missing something? That would take very long doing random tasks if I could even find enough. What should I be doing?

First, its newb not noob, don’t degrade yourself with that term. Second, I’d recommend doing map exploration, get those skill challenges and area hearts done, some of them provide easy access to armor thats close to your level.

If you need to level up before your next story step, focus on completing hearts and dynamic events in the surrounding areas. These give you a lot of exp. If you are running out of things to do in one area, or the next section of the area is too hard for you, head on over to a different starting area (like Wayfarer Foothills, Metrica Province, etc.) and find some things to do there!

Story steps aren’t built so that you can do them all in a row at once. They have gaps between the level requirements so that you have room to explore new areas.

If you are grinding, then you are doing it wrong.

It’s an MMO-RPG. Just play the game and have fun.
There are tons of things to do.

Explore, Dynamic Events, Minigames, Heart Tasks, Vistas, PIO, Jumping puzzles, Mini Dungoens, Story dungoens, Explorable Dungoens, Fractical of Mists, sPvP, tPvP, WvW, Personal Storyline, World boss events, Gathering, Crafting, etc. (The list goes on)

Play the game and have fun, dont grind. The game is designed for u to explore and adventure in a rich Lore envoirment. This is the only mmorpg u can actually apreciate exploring and doing things with others.

Also There are NO such thing of Quests in GW2.
the term “Quest” is flaw since it could mean anything.

Be more specific on what you are trying to do. But ultimatly have fun.

Yeah…you might be like me and outlevel yourself. I always end up ahead of the curve at first. Kill more stuff and (if you are or not talking about story quest) make sure you keep up with the personal story. Also, crafting gains a level or two at the beginning.

Personal story steps go up by 2 levels each time keep in mind these are recommended levels however most story steps can actually be done a level or 2 below .

Doing events and hearts is going to be the fastest way for you to level up and after you complete hearts the person with it becomes a vendor with items such as armor , weapons, rings etc you can get for karma so they are always worth a look .

Keep in mind that if you do you’re story quest as soon as you are the “appropriate” level then the next story quest will be 1-3 levels higher than you are now, this doesn’t mean you are underleveled at all, take some time to do events nearby and heart quests as well as grabbing any vistas/skillpoints/points of interest along the way and you’ll level fairly constantly. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me in game whenever i’m on =)

I did the same thing when the game first came out!

But it’s wrong, yes, you must grind out levels in order to do your personal story. You can not level to 80 from PS alone.

PS is also broken up into 8 segments which each cover about 10 levels. So my advice would be, go explore and have fun till you hit lvl 10, then go do PS up to lvl 10, then go level up to 20 > do PS up to 20 etc etc.

Map completion, hunting skill point challenges, WvW, dailies, crafting are all good ways to earn XP. Technically, you earn 1 level per hour doing any activity.

By the time I was doing level 30-40 events I was level 70+. Basically I completed many maps and did crafting. You will still get scaled down but will have better gear so it will make story progression quicker.
