Noob needs help
thief works great in pvp/wvw but not pve/dungeons (if you’re aiming for something particular).
Just do the story, do hearts along the way to match up to your story level.
Every dungeon explorable gives 70% xp regardless of level (AC lvl35 is the first one)
Hey new to the game here , I just created a thief . Do equipment and weapon combinations matter early on in the game ? And do I only depend on the heart quests to level up ? Everything is so complicating :/
First of all use this subforum next time https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players
To you questions:
1. No not at all.
2. Basically everything gives you EXP – Exploring, gathering materials, crafting, doing events, doing hearts, doing daily achievements.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
The only thing that doesn’t give you xp is sitting down so just run around and do everything.
Weapon combos don’t really matter much early, you’ve got a chance to study them and see where you want to go.
You won’t think it’s complicated in a few days
And don’t sell yourself short! You’re a newb, not a noob.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
The hearts and story will lead me to these dungeons or do I have to explore on my own? Hmms , what jobs are great for pve and for beginners ?

Haha thanks dude ! But at times my level are below the heart levels and I just run around wasting time , what should I do ? :/
The first dungeon is at level 30 and you’ll receive notification in the mail when you’re ready.
Don’t rush, get a feel for the game. Everything will come in time.

you can do your story as high as 3-5 levels above you, granted you’ll do glancing hits against a +5lvl enemy.
Try to do everything in the map (Point of interest, waypoints, vistas, hearts) you’ll need 100% map completion anyways (to some extent near endgame)
mine/harvest everything, and level cooking/jewelcrafting (cheapest professions, also grants xp [10 levels from 1-400])
If you’ve reached a point where everything around is slightly too high for comfort then you’re able to go to other maps. Find your way into the main city for your race and look for the portal to Lions Arch. From there you can go anywhere.

You can press ‘M’ to see the map, and you can see the level ranges for for each area. If you the area you are in is more than about levels higher than your character level, you will have a very hard time.
With that said;
Do any content you like within your level range. Look for Events (yellow circles on the map), and continue to look for hearts that you already know about. Also, crafting. Grab a crafting booster if you can, and hit the crafting stations! You’ll be able to bump yourself up quite quickly—provided you have the materials—which is why you’ll need to explore the maps and gather materials (which also give you XP just for gathering) GL!
All the advice is great guys !! However how do you craft ._. My bag is full of crafting items and I have no idea how useful they are , thus unsure of what to sell

there’s a cog in the top right, click that, deposit all collectables. these go into a separate ‘free’ bank system, that’s accessible from the bank, so you don’t have to ‘carry’ them around

Right-click on them and select Deposit to Collectibles, or whatever it is. You can also select the option to sell on the trading post. It’ll give you a chance to look into that as well.
Craft trainers are found in all the major cities and in some of the start zones. Possibly all but I don’t remember seeing any in Queensdale, for all the time I’ve spent there.

Queensdale: Bottom-left (Claypool)
Aside from doing hearts, I suggest to do vistas and discover points of interests on your starting map. While running around the map doing these, gather what you can find on your way. (So you have to equip all gathering tools.)
Your best bet for crafting is to hit B, go to a borderland, any one. Once there, you will see 4 portals around you… one by itself and then 3 clustered. Walk through the one by itself, this brings you to Lions Arch; this is like the Capital City of the game. Go North past the bank and/or Trading post and you will be in the crafting areas. Pick whichever you want (leatherworker and weaponsmith would probably help the most), and start going.

You can do a couple of the 5 starting areas to give yourself a level boost…
Just click PvP icon then go to the mists, run through PvP land and go to Lions Arch Asura gate. Once in LA, just ask in chat where the the 5 gatess are to racial starting areas, someone will direct you…
I usually do at least 2 starting areas before moving on…Queensdale/Wayfarer Hills always seem to be the busiest.
