Not So Secret - Diving Goggles
I see many mesmers duo porting – one from the waypoint to the chest, the second from the chest to the goggles – so I do not think a single mesmer portal at the goggles can reach the outside of the mountain to port players up from the waypoint/outside to the goggle spot.
I have a mesmer on the chest, but not one up at the goggles. If I can get one up there then I could then port to the chest with Mes1, swap to the Mes2 at the goggles and then port up from the chest to the goggles.
I’ll try to get one up to the goggles tonight. If I do I’ll let you know and will be at your disposal for as long as you need me, if you still need it by the time I manage to do it.

The portal to the goggles does not give the achievement. You must actually grab the goggles and do the dive ‘properly’ to get the achievement. The portal just saves the jumper 30-90 minutes of making their way back up to the goggles after their inevitable failed jump.
If the NSS diving goggles were like any other goggles (save for dry top), where you get them and jump and you’re good, that’s one thing, but they are not.
A player can spend 30-90 minutes to get to the top to get the goggles, and then they have to jump blindly into the void and hope that they don’t hit the intentionally placed obstacles on the way down. When they do (I’ve not heard of anyone doing it on their first try), then they die and need to waypoint outside of the puzzle, go all the way back in, spend another 30-90 minutes to get back up there only to die on the jump again.
The task itself is not designed to be challenging, where successfully completing it gives a sense of satisfaction – it is designed to be frustrating with unnecessary obstacles that defy logic (even in a world that has magic) simply because the designer desired to make success more based on luck than on skill.
Challenge and award me for my skills, not for my ability to throw away hours doing the same thing without destroying my keyboard/throwing my mouse in the hopes of getting lucky enough one time to not hit some jutting pipe or two after jumping blindly and passing through a huge and pointless rock that lacks collision because reasons. Even then, people have survived the jump into the water successfully without touching anything on the way down and not been awarded the achievement due to some bug or whatever. That is not fun. It is not fun.
I will get a mesmer up there for you today, Lanfear. I’ll mail you in-game when I do and see if you still need me to help.

Okie doke. Got another mesmer parked for the goggles. So now I can port to the chest, then from the chest to the goggles.
Let me know whenever you have need for either for however long you need me.

Apparently the game doesn’t like my logging off on the platform for the goggles. I logged back in with it to port someone to them and I was down on top of the blimp.
I’ve been trying all night to get back to there and find a safe spot to log out on. I’m not sure if one of the jutting pipes will be alright to log out on and not be on the blimp when I log back in. We shall see.
So as of right now, I cannot port to the goggles yet, but I have a few names of people who have alts parked at it that might be asked if they could help you out.
I’ll keep trying.

Yet another update.
With the help of a few friendly players, I’ve now managed to get a mesmer parked on the goggle platform. This time I did a logout/in test and it did not displace me back down to the blimp as it had before.
So if you still need someone to help with the goggles now that I am able to, let me know.

I did get a hand with this, this past weekend. Just been insanely busy with work and haven’t had a chance to update this.
Many, many, many thanks to that very patient mesmer who portalled my sorry bum like a dozen times for me to finally get the jump right.
Ah screw it, much <3 Stin. ^.^

If you are keeping that mes parked there for a while I will definitely take advantage of that next week. This is my last goggle dive as well which I have been avoiding for too long. I would have joined this conversation a week ago but life has been far too busy of late but holidays are coming up. If your mes has left, no worries, I have waited this long I can wait a bit longer and try doing it myself again.

So many cheaters, clearly ‘achievements’ are simply worthless these days as no one can know if you actually did it yourself or someone did all the work for you.

Sure they are! If you want to have an achievement people respect and look up to, do something in the real world. Help solve one of our problems, code a piece of software millions of people use, create some art others enjoy… help other players exploring stuff in a video game they can’t do on their own. It’s not you lose anything.

Riggghhhhhhttttt……because players playing together and helping each other in an MMO is cheating.
Are you saying that you are such a jerk that you have NEVER helped anyone in the game accomplish something?

chuckle
“You had someone help you to the goggles! You’re cheating!”
Let’s just completely discount the fact that it took me a dozen tries to achieve the jump…
But, by that same logic, leading a group through a dungeon is cheating too. Especially if you’re showing them the stack and smack, speed clear option.
Or gifting your guildie the mats he or she needs to make armor, or a weapon, cause that touches collection achievements as well.
Or… nah, I’ll just stop there.
Perhaps a better way of looking at this, Kraggy, is that PvE is intended to be cooperative. Not competitive. By helping each other out, we are achieving the intended goal of pve – social, cooperative play.
Last I checked, the the achievement doesn’t say “get up to the diving point without help from a mesmer” — it only requires that you make the dive successfully. There are other achievements in the game that don’t allow much assistance from others, but most PvE achievements do.
Even WvW and PvP achievements can be done more easily with a group.
tl;dr it’s up to each person to decide for themselves how they want to gain achievements.
