I remember hearing many times that you could use both if you did them in the right order. Is this still true (or did they change it) and if so, which order?

They are pretty cheap, you could always try them out.

If they didn’t change it, I believe it was FE first, then whistle. The elemental can survive underwater, where the ogre pet won’t.

Again, if they didn’t change it, they stay the level in the area you created them. So if you just got into a 20-30 zone. You can use them at level 30, then run back to the level 20 area.
