First the world map, Oh the horror.

Am I the only one who feels repulsed by square mountain ranges and the clear crisp explored to the water color unexplored or non-existent areas. For a game thats so polished its a real shame.

On a related note, Will this be fixable by a mod, will mods even exist.

Next, I try to estimate the population of Divinity’s reach (in the thousands somewhere). I tried counting houses but that didnt work well, especially as I have no way of guessing how many people are living in those gigantic walls. Though theres no where enough farmland to feed a population that size. I love how realistic the farms and such look and I think “yay this game is realisticly scaled…” Then i see Divinity “Oh.”

If they’d just had the zones separated on the map id be happy. All the zones are instanced its not like they HAD to put them right next to each other like wow did, making the world literaly a few km in size. Instead of having an anbiguously sized world with the few specific important locations you visit being a few km.

What things in the game detract from your enjoyment? What would you have changed/fixed.

I love the map. I thought it was one of the best, well thought out maps in an mmo that I can remember. As my dad would say, “that’s why they make chocolate AND vanilla ice cream.”

Yup, i think the map is brilliant. The whole game actually lol

I came from swtor where you have to endure loading screens going to “planets” which is actually just one, barren, quiet, empty, lifeless map. Most of the locations became stale and there was no point visiting it again.

Also no need for farms when you’ve got asura gates

This game has the most beautiful UI ever, map included. It’s flawless IMHO.

And I second Neoheart’s opinion about SWTOR.

I personally think the map and it’s design/look is amazing. Just try and not think too much into scaling :P

Only thing I don’t like about the map is it’s real hard to tell what zone is what unless you explore it . Should have some more clear info when leveling.

No real problem with the map myself, would be nice if we had a better idea of where one area ended and another started (some type of outline), but once you’ve explored an area it’s fairly clear what’s what.

Now that you mention it, that would have made the world seem larger, also would have given opportunity for expansion (adding new segments or locations).

I think there’s plenty of oppertunity for expansion already. There’s large areas of the current map we can’t go to (Magus Falls and Woodland Cascades for example), plus the other two continents from GW1 (Cantha and Elona).

After that….we can be reasonably sure Tyria is a globe, the 3 known continents are roughly in a North-South line and we haven’t seen nearly enough to the East and West for it to wrap around into a globe shape, so it’s reasonable to assume there’s a lot more of the planets surface. It could be that they’re right that the Ocean is Unending, or it could be that we’re just waiting for Tyrias Christopher Columbus to actually try the trip.

(Which one it is probably depends on whether the devs want to add another continent at any time.)
