Old Items Totally Useless?
The letter is actually completely useless. It’s only purpose is to show you the location of your character’s associated race’s home instance. You also get two a year anyway.
- Refugee Mementos: 100% useless; they’ll never add a use for it.
- Mystical Cogs: there are other ways to obtain the minis, cheaper & easier imo. I think we can be sure that this won’t change; I recommend selling on the TP.
- Ugly Clothes are only good for orphan donations, as you surmised. That might change in the future. Stock up on a few stacks if you want to make your life 1% easier next year or to sell to people at panic prices next December. Or just sell now; if there’s a new use in the future, there will also be a new source (probably/maybe).
Regarding the wiki article on Refugee Mementos
The text at the top says:
The information on this page does not apply to the current version of the game or the content is no longer available.
The Black Citadel Collector was available when the Mementos still dropped (as indicated in the article), so it was accurate then. As indicated by the “historical item note”, the information on the article isn’t meant to be current; it’s only there to remind us the old sources/sinks. (To be fair, for consistency’s sake, the entire article should be in the same tense, per wiki guidelines; alas, not every editor reads the style notes.)

I also have Tassi’s Relay Golem, the Investigation Kit, and Marjory’s Journal. These are from past holiday events that I never actually finished. Are they worth keeping?
None of those are worth keeping. The LS1 events are gone and will never return (if LS1 is turned into repeatable content, the mechanics will be updated and there will be a new opportunity to obtain the necessary items).
And, do I have to keep Orphan Laine’s letter after I’ve completed Warming Grawnk’s Heart?
As stated above, it’s not needed after you begin the quest and certainly not after completing it.
I just want to be completely sure before I start deleting or selling willy nilly.
It’s a good idea to double-check.
The wiki almost never says if you can safely delete an item, but it always says if you need the item for a particular purpose (except for a few days after a patch which changes things). Accordingly, what I do is to look up each item on the wiki: if the article offers a use, I keep it; if it doesn’t, I delete. I’ve yet to encounter any issues.
FYI a relatively easy way to look up lots of items:
- Shift-click each item to put it in the chat window.
- Prepend with /wiki
- Press enter, which takes you to a page linking to the relevant articles
For example:
/wiki [Tassi’s Relay Golem][Marjory’s Journal]
…yields a single page with links to Marjory’s Journal and Tassi’s Relay Golem
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it!
I didn’t know about the quick way to look up items in-game, so thanks for that as well!
Glad I could be of help.
