"Old" player comming back, any advice?
To properly give you advice, we need some more specific info from you about your play style preferences. Do you like your combat complicated or simple? Do you like to glass cannon, or survive? Do you like to (primarily) support the group, or take out opponents? Ranged or Melee? Pets or No? Etc. Without this information you’re going to get back, at best, a lot of, “My favorite class is:” responses.
Something to keep in mind: there is no “right” class to play. Nor is there a “wrong” class to play. I’m not even sure there’s a proper fotm right now, just a few builds that garner more attention than others. So, really, this is all about what you would have the most fun playing.
I was a shadow Priest in WoW for years. Necromancer is closest to shadow Priest, imo. Also it’s surprisingly fun to play (I wasn’t psyched for it until I decided I wanted a human female for the pretty Light armors and now I really enjoy her though she’s just level 30). Mind you, Necro only offers some of the same general feel; in its particulars it’s nothing like spriest.
For rogue you’d go Thief, though in GW2 that’s more about mobility than stealth since you don’t permastealth. I had 3 rogues in WoW and my main here is Thief. I come at my characters from an RP perspective, btw, so Donari is in some ways a retread of a WoW rogue of mine, the dashing swashbuckling one.
Thief has a number of WvW advantages, though as I have never been much of a PvPer my ideas on that will differ from devoted combatants. I really like the whole running away from the fight ability

While true thief indeed has just as strong disadvantages too in WvW, specially the lack of more but ONE 1200 range ability that is then even ground targeted. So if you prefer the keep sieges part of wvw thief ain’t the best
First of all, thank you for all the answers!

- I’m sorry if my original text was unclear on this matter, let me rephrase myself. I enjoy my warrior, but found it to be a bit simple (in a lack of better words). I often found myself doing the same things over and over, and I rarely had to change tactics during mob encounters or in PvP. I found this to be a bit frustrating and boring – which is one of the reasons I don’t really want to play that profession anymore.
I’ve often seen myself as a person who enjoy “advanced” professions/classes, mainly because I find more satisfaction in mastering it. It also have to be said, that since I won’t have much time playing, it shouldn’t be so complicated that it’s something thats utterly impossible to learn unless you use a lot of time getting used to it. I’ve tried Mesmer, but found it to have too much depth for me to grasp without having to sit down for many hours a day to learn it.
I can see myself playing something ranged. Mostly because it looks fun, but also because I get the idea that playing ranged will give me space and breathing room to blast enemies away. I find the idea of glass canon fun, it seems fun – the question is: Is it possible to survive, or is the class just not designed to survive, at all? I don’t mind beeing squishy, but I’d like a chance to survive. Aswell as I don’t mind playing support or direct damage, even though I like direct damage dealing the most, I think.
Necro, elemantalist and theif sounds quite interesting.

No class is designed to not have survivability. You just have to consider the type of survival tactics available. Where Thieves rely on erratic movement, evasion, and misdirection for survival, Necro relies on Death Shroud, Life Steal, and AoE walling. Both can survive well as a glass cannon, but since their manner of survival changes, so does your potential to best utilize the system. Some players innately know how to act really tricky with thieves, other players don’t.
Judging by your wants, I think you’d enjoy either Ele or Thief. Necro isn’t a bad idea, it’s going to feel fairly simple at face value, but really mastering the class will unveil a lot of complication.
Engineer can also be a pretty “cognitive” profession as well, but like mesmer can be too much to think about.
I really liked playing/figuring out thief during bwe3. Now I’m all guardian. Next is ranger.
You could try Necro, Ele, Theif, Warrior, Ranger
You’ve got 5 character slots. Make use of em
plus with that combo you could actually use all the weapons the game has to offer (even if you dropped necro or ele).
