When I started to play, the 2 day before release day thing, on that same day I started Crafting. It wasn’t long before I had several Characters all with different Professions. Then came the day I wanted to delete a Character and oops had to start learning to Craft those Professions again from scratch.

So, I changed my approach to Crafting and I have just one Character on all Professions. That is to say a Character which, after playing it for aaaaages, I was sure I would never delete him. Now when I need anything from a snack to a sword all I do is pay a few silver to change one of professions to the one I need and bingo.

I like to buy recipes from the Heart guys when I see one. My single crafting guy gets to read them not always the character which trades for them. Remember that you can switch Crafting Professions without forgetting the Recipes you learnt for the one you decided to abandon for a bit.

If you really must get to level 80 quick it isn’t expensive to level up a Cook so make another Cook.

Remember too that at level 80 you continue to get skill points which can be traded for stuff so that extra XP that a single Character gets from learning stuff isn’t wasted.

Worth thinking about.

Since I am a hoarder of crafting materials and armour/weapons, I chose to have a crafting discipline on a separate character. I didn’t bother using the secondary discipline slots either.

The reason for this is that I wanted to keep the items they need or can craft on that character for easier item management.

For instance, my kittenolds all the surplus cooking materials(gatherable ones as well as craftable ones[noodles]). My armoursmith holds all the heavy armour I get from my travels so that if I need armour, I can check if I have a suitable armour already. If not, I would craft it.

If I chose to do all the disciplines on one character, then I would have to pay a couple of silver every once in a while and also my inventory get increasingly smaller as new materials become available. Of course it doesn’t matter if you use the bank, but I like to keep useful things for all characters in there.

Also worth thinking about.

Crafting has always been something I don’t get the hang of…

I figured I would level the professions I enjoy playing and then once they all hit 80 and I’m likely burnt out from leveling I can take my time to learn the crafting. This way extends the amount of time I put into the game – allows me to gather tons of mats before I start, and prevents having to pay into a gold sink just to have all the professions available to me.

Though if you don’t spend weekends at a time playing the game you might not get burnt out, and thusly not have given this approach any thought until this point.

“a couple silver” is actually around 40 silver, last I checked. Which is a significant amount of money to me. I’d rather just log into a different character.

Not saying your approach is wrong, it’s something to consider, but I tried it and hated it.

I don’t know if this is still true (haven’t tried for awhile), but it used to be that if you used a recipe on a character who didn’t have that profession, it will still show up on the character who does. Meaning that purchased recipes were basically for the entire account.

Can anyone confirm/deny if this still works?

The price is 10 copper for every point you have in your chosen profession.

I have tended to ignore the cost because I can quickly make 30-40 silver. Thinking now about how often I change I suppose it is about once a week so not a lot of money for me.
