One day in and I need help.
You can delete your low-level character and remake it; you can create another character; or you could acquire a Makeover Kit for Gems (either with cash or exchanging Gold-to-Gems – also found in Black Lion Chests, I believe).
To use a waypoint in another starter zone (Wayfarer Foothills, Metrica Province, Ashford Plains, or Queensdale), just click on it, and if you have the requisite amount of Gold (should be just a few copper), you character will be transported there.
The Wiki (link above – also accessible from in-game by typing /Wiki [topic of choice]) has almost all necessary game information, and is a great resource.
Welcome to Tyria, and good luck!
Hi! Welcome to GW2. I’ve played both games, but here I am, too!
I would say for brand new players, GW2’s core leveling experience is better and more forgiving. However, unlike WoW you can’t really outgear the content. So fair warning: When you reach the HoT expansion maps at level 80, expect to be challenged! You can upgrade your gear, but your survival will depend somewhat more heavily on your ability to adapt. In WoW you can always outgear the problem. Not so much in GW2.
Waypoints must be discovered by walking to them first. However, after that you can use them (for a small fee) whenever you are out of combat (and as long as the waypoint isn’t contested by an event – indicated by a crossed swords icon over the waypoint). Be aware that waypoints are per character, so when you try another character you will have to explore the world again in order to use the waypoints.
To try different areas, reroll or roll a new character, choose a different race, and you will begin in their starter city. There are also some Asura portals you can use to get between some cities.
Everyone gets one waypoint to each starter map unlocked. You can open up your world map and look for a cleared area with a waypoint on it. Click on the waypoint and you’ll get the option to travel to that spot.
As extra info:
You have the ability to send mats (materials) to your bank inventory no matter where you are. Get a salvage kit, salvage any gear you don’t need for yourself then use the gear symbol in the right upper corner of your inventory to open up the option to send it off. You can use these mats to level crafting and make gear for yourself or to sell it on the trading post at your convenience. Banks can be found in every major city and also at crafting sites, which are also in major cities as well as occasionally in regular maps.
The game is based on exploration and doing events. Doing hearts are useful as the NPC will become a merchant after you finish. If you complete a map (all hearts, points of interest, vistas and waypoints) the game will give you a reward.
ANet may give it to you.
Ok. I’m a level 14 ,so I guess I don’t have enough gold to activate the waypoints yet. I’m slowly getting used to it. And this community is way nicer .
You may be looking to use Waypoints that are near you, or in adjacent maps. The only waypoints (other than those you have ‘walked’ to) that are available for use are in the other racial starting zones (listed above in the previous post). If you did even one Daily, you have enough Gold (2 Gold).
Good luck.
At level 14 you should have the funds to waypoint. It’s only a few copper to waypoint at that level. Vendoring one piece of gear will get you more than enough if you have none. You also get gold from killing mobs or from doing events.
Open your big map and look around for cleared areas. They aren’t real big but they’ll have a waypoint open. Those are the other starter maps.
Or what you can do if you can’t see them is ask for someone to ping another starter map waypoint in chat. You can click on the waypoint pinged in chat and use that to jump to the other area.
ANet may give it to you.

For the waypoints: Type M to open the world map. Left click on any waypoint you have unlocked (light blue in color). You will get a confirmation box to complete the teleport.
For changing appearance: Type H to open your Hero Panel. Select Dyes (should be in the list two below Equipment). You can use the eyedropper to select a color and recolor any armor you like.
You can change the appearance of armor, but it costs. Go to Hero Panel, and this time pick Wardrobe just below equipment. You can then pick an armor location from the drop down box and the available appearances (skins) will show up. Pick the one you want. WARNING: The transformation will require a transmutation charge.
I’ve been saving my charges in case there is high level gear that I want to wear but don’t like the look of, so you may want to do the same.
Some of the female armors are a bit Frazetta, and thereby kind of stupid. You can choose your toons armor type as a crafting skill and level it with your toon. You can usually find a crafted armor that’s as good as drops, and usually more practical in looks. Or you can use a transmutation charge (not recommended) or you can just ignore it till something else drops.

Dont really know what your “high level gear” is but do not at any point transmute anything below level 80 exotic gear. Its completely useless. At low levels (ie 79 or below) you will be swapping armor and weapons every 10th level or even quicker. Hell, I have had moments where I didnt even have the same weapon for one level, lol. Everything will be tossed away once you are 80.
Well except maybe that blue level 30 underwater weapon you forgot you even had because you will never use it again.

Yes, meant end-game eg exotic gear. Don’t transmute anything lower for exactly the reason you describe.
