Okay, today I went to look at the WvW stats and all that stuff when I’m told you can’t look at that while your on an overflow server.

Why is that important? Why can’t we just be on overflow servers without queuing up? Is there something I’m missing, why is it SO freaking important that I move. Yes I know … you can leave the queue but that seems like a bad idea if you are now being penalized for being on these locations (aka if you want to look at WvW info).

What else can I not see while I’m on this dreaded, harsh, bad version of my world called …. wait for it … overflow!

Seriously, I’m just wanting to understand the reasoning so I can make a better judgement of my location in the game.

The reason you cannot see WvW from an overflow is because ALL servers are in overflows. There can literally be people from any server (NA or EU), on that server with you. While your character might be from a specific server, you are not currently on that server, and I imagine the stats are probably kept specifically on the server, not on your character.

Overflow is not your home sever, it’s a temporary server to hold toons from every server when the home server is too crowded… hence, “overflow.”

Overflow was not intended to be a permanent destination, you only go there when your home server is full, and should go back to the home server ASAP. You aren’t being punished for being on overflow, the game just wasn’t designed to link back to your home server.

Because WvWvW stats can change while you are on the overflow server, in order to view them you would have to access the home server from overflow. You are on overflow because the home server is full, sending requests to an already full server would only cause problems. If you care about WvWvW then you want to get back to your home server ASAP, not stay in overflow.

You don’t like overflow? So you would rather be outside the game waiting in a queue?…

I would rather be in an overflow than outside the game waiting in a queue.

Overflow not only removes the need for queues to get into the game it also lets them have more people in game/on a world at a time since any player with a server as their homeworld can log in without delay.

I guess I am just us to games having multiple instances to balance the load. Lion’s Arch is a nightmare when I’m not on the overflow so I am so happy to opt out of the queue when there. The overflow thing is much better than at launch but still I’d say I am in overflow FAR more than I am ever on the “real” server/instance/virtual what not.

I don’t see how cities and such will ever not be hurt from overflow though, Lion’s Arch is a perfect example. Everyone cycles through there, you may just be popping through for a moment but some, like myself last night, I just wanted to putz around in WvW but I’d opted out of the queue so it wouldn’t bug me while waiting for friends. I had to jump to another area just to get back in the queue, then wait and wait a bit more to be asked to jump to the “REAL” world just so I could check WvW stats and see if anything interested me or how the war waged.

I appreciate everyone’s perspective, how I’ve managed to not notice this all this time is beyond me. I am always looking at the WvW stats and this was the first time it refused to tell me anything – I guess I’ve just been lucky so far.

Overflow is ANet’s way of saving you from having to stare at a queue number while you wait in line to get logged in. It’s a temporary holding pen… you’re not meant to be able to have access to everything, you’re only meant to be distracted from your wait to get on to your normal server.
