Hi! I’ve been playing for over 200 hours so far, and I’m really enjoying running around just exploring the map and doing small events that come and go, but I’ve been trying to get into the more intensive play of Guild Wars 2. I have a level 80, and I still have armor that looks like a blank slate of chain mail.
Any time I try to do the Living Story, high-level dungeon stuff I hear about in Lion’s Arch, or whatever all the acronyms are, I’m greeted with two things that make this game frustratingly terrible, and why all my real life friends quit the game at 8 hours in:

  • Lack of any sort of in-game tutorials or information
  • Lack of help within the community, in-game at least

So what I’m asking is this:

  • Is there any website/blog that offers clean, beginner level, easily accessible, information regarding current Guild Wars 2 events? I’ve tried the Wiki, but it does not do a good job to explain me the basic stuff, like “where the hell does this event start?” (see above problems)
  • Are there any in-depth YouTube tutorials explaining the PvP features?

Top left of this page (and all GW2 official pages) is a banner of links….click the WIKI one and many questions will be answered.

There is a series of threads on the previous page (Players Helping Players forum page) that give very valuable details about the game and how to play it. Pay particular attention to the OGM….. post as it is very informative.

All of the wiki listings on Events list the NPC that imitates the event as a link and that link will tell you where they are located. If you are talking the Living Story events, try Dulfy.net for possible guide info.

All the different forums on this site have invaluable information in them (most are stickied at the top of the forum list). Many of these post threads will have tons of links to build sites and youtube videos.

Since the advent of the MegaServer system, have you just tried asking your question in MAP chat? If GW2 players are anything, they are nearly always helpful to new players.

If you mean the Living Story by current Guild Wars Events … yes, dulfy typically has some guides up very fast and good. The pointers in game actually have gotten better since the beginning, maybe you could be a bit more precise what sort of information you are looking for.

I’m always amazed on how much stuff you simply can find by using google or youtube.

I would also like to recommend this bunch of people, there are no obligation and I’ve never met one person here that is impatient or not helpful, I had hesitated for a while being more of a loner at heart perhaps, but they really don’t bite. Check out the thread if you like.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

You stated that your gear looks “gray” – so I need to ask you to do one thing for me – turn your graphics all the way as high as your computer will go (best appearance in the options/graphics when you hit esc)

Now look around you, do you still see all others and yourself as gray?

The Official Wiki has been wrong so many times, please do not send people to that monstrosity.

What he/she can do is start looking for a hardcore (!) whatever guild.

If the person is PvE and likes the static world of man against computer – then look for a guild that uses synergy builds to help one another in events and dungeons.

If one is PvP oriented find a guild that is hardcore PvP and then grind baby grind and pick the brains of your teammates and opponents – you should get better.

If one loves the man against man with little computer interaction then WvW is for you and you will find dedicated WvW guilds who will share amazing builds (if your server has few or none, consider moving if this will be your focus.)

It’s about where you are comfortable and have the most fun.

As you can probably tell WvW is my home but not until I had spend 90% of my time for the first eight months in PvP and had no idea WvW existed – yeah, it wasn’t well advertised and there were no “events” to get one started in WvW unlike PvE…

See you out here!

As I said to Brother Grimm,

I think a good Guild would make a difference to you, it’s up to you which guild you join, I belong to WTNF, they are a family guild, very friendly, chatty, helpful, kind, I was a very slow learner with GW, and thanks to them my gaming experience has completely changed!

Good Luck

ps. When The Night Falls has a site: www.wtnf.eu

you can also find plenty off members ingame!

www.dulfy.net is probably one of the best resources for any level of player. In fact, Anet named a character after her, you’ll find Siegemaster Dulfy defending a gate in Urban Fractal.

As for your armour, it looks like you’re still using the blue or green (fine and masterwork) level armours. Run some dungeons to get tokens so you can start moving towards rare and exotic armours.

The problem is that most of the guide or source of information will only help you for medium to high level of precision. You need to know what you want more information on to get that information. If you don’t know what content there is in the game, then it will be hard for you to get information on. My best advice (and I write that a lot on the forum) is : ‘’get yourself a guild and get invested into it’‘. That will help SO MUCH. We had a new player that joined a couple of months ago. It was always on or VOIP and wanted to get good at the game, not just casual and with a ’’i’ll get there when i get there’’ attitude. We brought him to speed real fast, and after 1 or 2 months he played most of the content at least once and he starting to get the end game gear. A guild is your best option for informations.
