With the Labyrinth returning I wanted to put this out there. Please be aware that a common tactic is to ball up enemies (especially those who come out of doors) for easier combat, so things which cause them to spread out such as Fear and especially Knockback should be avoided if at all possible.

In previous years I’ve encountered many situations where players simply didn’t realise a skill they were using caused knockback so I thought I’d list them to make people aware.

Universal (and unavoidable)

  • Levelling up: No, really. When you gain a level the ‘burst’ effect that occurs actually pushes back enemies around you. There is nothing the player can do to prevent it so please be understanding if it happens.

Elementalist

  • Gust – air staff 3
  • Unsteady Ground – earth staff 4
  • Tidal Surge – water warhorn 4
  • Crashing Waves – ice elemental attack

Engineer

  • Magnetic Inversion – shield 4
  • Throw Mine – utility
  • Airblast – flamethrower 3

Guardian

  • Shield of Absorption – shield 5
  • Hammer of Wisdom – utility
  • Wave of Light – downed skill

Mesmer

  • Illusionary Wave – Greatsword 5

Necromancer

  • Chilling Wind – lich form 3

Ranger

  • Counterattack – greatsword 4
  • Point Blank Shot – longbow 4
  • Glyph of Tides – utility

Revenant

  • Surge of the Mists – staff 5

Warrior
*Rifle Butt – Rifle 5

  • Staggering Blow – hammer 4
  • Kick – utility
  • Staggering Blow – Banner of Defense 2

Charr

  • Rocket Spray – charrzooka 2

Norn

  • Wind Blast – raven form 2
  • Heavy Swipe – bear form 2
