Hi everyone,
I’ll be at all 3 days of PAX and since San Antonio is my hood I wanted to pass along some suggestions if you’re looking for lively restaurants or bars in the downtown area.
Also I would love to meet some GW2 locals and visitors! Feel free to PM me and we can get in contact. Also it’s been warm lately so bring your tshirts!
I am more known as “best teef na” (self titled) in the pvp realm but I do dabble in wvw and pve.
San Antonio
Check out downtown and the riverwalk but as a local I must tell you many of the restaurants just tourist traps so I have some suggestions.
Definitely go to Hot Joy which is an uber ride away or even a walk from downtown. My friends run it and it opened last year and was already on the top 10 for bonapetit. It’s just an awesome vibe for drinks or eats.

Blanco Cafe, I prefer the one at 1720 Blanco Rd. such a great atmosphere. Go there and get the cheese enchilada plate, with some extra flour tortillas to eat the rest of the rice/beans/sauce.
I’m serious people, go there! Best texmex in San Antonio!

This is relevant and really cool to know. Thanks for the info!
Having spent some time in San Antonio, and been to a few of those places, I can vouch for how awesome they are. Also the entire city is actually pretty cool. Loved my time there, both in Basic Training, and on my own time. Downtown is actually REALLY cool. Lots of awesome places to hang out, eat, and things to do and see. For those of you going, I am jealous!! Have fun and be safe!!!!
P.S. Watch out for the cats….they are EVERYWHERE!!!! (At least when I was down there a few years ago. :P)

We’re going to have some HoT Joy, that’s for sure °L°

Am San Antonian. Can confirm, many cats, and that the Riverwalk is pretty but the restaurants right on the river are tourist traps. Also, nobody here calls it “San Antone,” so be forewarned.
I can also confirm the excellence of the places listed by Best Teef NA. We really do have amazing food in this town, so do yourself a favor and try it out rather than sticking to the big chains.
If you have trouble with food allergies avoid the Pearl Brewery, everything is cooked on the same grill. My SO has had a reaction every time he went with co-workers.
For clarification, the Pearl Brewery is actually a whole complex of various shops and restaurants (not a single restaurant), and they are in no way affiliated with each other. Your SO may have had a reaction to something at one of the restaurants in the Pearl Brewery area, but there are many different restaurants there, each with their own kitchen. It’s a really neat area, so please don’t throw the whole spot out just because of allergy experiences at a single restaurant. That would be like saying “don’t eat at any of the restaurants on Main St., because I had an allergic reaction at restaurant X”.
Some great suggestions. Awesome to see/hear from other SA peeps.
Where can I park without being forced to take out a loan? The mall charged $13 for about 2-3 hours.

Take some time and drive around there are many $5-7 all day lots.
I found the public transit system more than adequate. And if the weather is nice walking is an option. I’m sure since it’s at the convention center that most hotels will provide transport to and from the event itself.
