I’ve noticed that alot of people have been selling items on the trade post for 1 copper higher then the vendor value. I wonder if they take acount of the listing fee to where they’re losing money selling it in the trade post rather then to the vendor.

I believe I’ve seen people selling it at straight vendor price. I’ve had no luck selling anything on trading post, when people seem so intent on actually LOSING money in a sell.

I didn’t see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Yep, these people are losing money. Also, don’t forget that when you sell an item, the TP takes a 10% selling fee, so these people are losing even more money. Not sure why people are doing this. Guess just chalk it up to ignorance of how the system works.

It takes time for some to grasp the economics of a system as opposed to being too focused on undercutting a competitor. During my 2 yrs in WoW I saw it all the time.

Poeple do that thinking that there is only the listing fee they have to pay, but they fail to realize that their is an additional 10% collecting fee as well. The people who put items on TP 1 copper above vendor or listing price think they are beating the system, when in reality the system is beating them.

Usually the games that i have played that have auction/trading houses like this. I look for the highest price that is listed, and sell my item just a tad lower than that. Usually works pretty good, depending on what the item is and what the price is. Usually people will want your item, and if they see yours at a lower price and there isnt too much competition, it will sell pretty fast. Usually works pretty well. Made over 4g doing that so far

It’s because 1c above the vendor price is the minimum price allowed in the brokerage for an item. I’m sure if ANet removed that restriction thousands of fools would drive down prices even further.

This is so true. Fact is that on World of Warcraft Auctioneer would look for items that were selling for below the vendor price, as money making oppurtunities.

If Gloves sold to the vendor for 50 silver, and it was on the Auction House for 35 silver, it would let you know, you buy at the AH,. sell to vendor, make a profit.

As I see it, this is mostly a product of two things.

1. Player Ignorance.
2. Trading House not being available for a week or so.

The former has been addressed, but the latter barely mentioned. Supply and Demand. Many people started crafting day 1, then the Trading post as unavailable. An inventory of items accrued in the bank.. as space deminished.. the need to sell grew. Just to clear bank space. So when the Trading House finally opened it led to a deluge of products dumped on the marketplace… people got caught up in the " Must undercut to sell" fever, and the ignorance of the house cut, they think " 1 copper above merchant is 1 copper more in my pocket.

Once people learn…if they learn… as the back inventory is bought up… maybe prices will become sane."

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

They could only go so far tho. And if they did take that away, it would only hurt the sellers since theyd make no profit on the items after the collection fee and listing fee. Either way, all they are doing is losing gold for their toons by going to the lowest possible price

Look aNet, the solution is simple.

Bottom cap the prices. Make it so you CANNOT SELL anything for under (Vendor Price+1cp +10%fee), then EVERYONE on the trading post will make profit, even the stupid people.

Right now just put that filter into place then ‘bump’ everyone below that up to that level and be done with it.

I wish AN would allow for it to go for less then the vendor price, that way the fools wouldn’t drag us down with them and others could make a small profit or get cheap salvage.

This is why i vendor all and any gear.

What I don’t understand is why doesn’t put the 10% fee in the TP Window aswell and only display the 5% listing fee? It’s hidden Inside the wiki as if anyone is gonna read that.

I do the same. unless it is worth salvaging. Unless it is something great, then it always gets slavaged or vendored

I absolutely hate this. Please make it so people will be losing profits when they do this. Also, disable it automatically going to buyers offers because I see a LOT of the time buyers putting ridiculously low offers up for hundreds in quantity of items just to scam people because when you go to sell something it automatically goes to that option first.

Did any of you stop to think that maybe they just would rather have a player USING what they have instead of selling it to a vendor…nope…just greed. Not everyone cares about making a profit in a game with few money sinks. Heck, maybe I will start doing it just tokitten off the greedy people.

This is actually one of the two things that annoy me in GW2. And it is the only one that annoys me and is not ArenaNet’s fault.
It’s cool and dandy when I am trying to buy stuff but when I am actually crafting something that took quite a lot of farming and see it go for nothing just makes me want to slap some people through the monitors.
To me, it seems kind of logical to put the prices a bit higher? I was expecting everything to be overpriced, while it’s ridiculously underpriced.

I would like to see ppl stop dumping the gear they get out in the world into the trade post. I think thats why prices are so low. Its strange to see prices so low but to be honest I was expecting them to be high and crazy like gw1 was. I think prices would be better if ppl had to go to town and place the item in the TP. Perhaps they should not allow you stick things in that are white or something, I dont know.

Few gold sinks? What game you playing? Trust me, 99% of those dudes don’t know what they doing and not the angelic person you think they are.

Most people don’t even know how much the item vendors for so when they see like 1s on TP, they like ‘not bad’ when the item vendors for 99c or they didnt notice the 5% listing fee and 10% selling fee or both.

Yes … more or less

People should be allowed to be able to freely play the game in whatever way makes them happy and enjoy things like this.

My experience in WoW has already given me an education in a Trading atmosphere. Once others gain an education, the trading post will stabilize a bit but for those who look for deals …deals will always be found. I made major profit on Netherweave bags in WoW without leaving the AH. As a tailor I merely bought the materials when I found deals and flipped the bags. Sometimes you can just flip the mats . I think charging a listing/selling fee through the auction house is complete and utter crap when there is no way to do direct character to character trades. I’m still amazed that they purposefully left that option out.

After thinking about this for a while and doing a bit of research myself. Weapons do not necessarily have this problem as bad. Same with some of the other crafting professions. I think part of the problem is that the armor crafters are missing a filter to make it easier for pepole to buy.

That filter is the Armor Class (Light Medium and Heavy). I think that putting it right under sub-category would do just nice. I don’t think we necessarily need a usable by me. This can put a unnecessary load on the trading post. As I think it did thus why they removed it in one of the BWE’s.

Recently I wanted to upgrade my armor for the Ascalonian Catacombes. My Leatherworking was not quite up to my level and it is too expencive for me to level it. I knew that there was a lot of good armor from crafting in the trading post better then what the armorsmith made. So I went in and set a filter for 5 level differance to see what I could by. It gave me a bunch of stuff that I could not wear. I gave up finding the armor I wanted and just baught from the armorsmith murchent.

I think a lot of pepole are having this problem. It also looks like the consumeable filter is broken.

So my question is this what terms have you been using to find the items you want?

While I understand your feelings, it seems as most games with trade window options tend to open a Pandora’s box of scam options … trade window open/closing , item switches , and result in chat room unhappiness. I negotiated a couple in game mail trades without issue. It involves trust but that option does exist.

The trading post is probably the most secure transaction option available and since we are inhabiting a “world” as it were and doing a business, said NPC representatives of that business are participating in the reality of providing a service

absolutely. and it’s kind of funny that the desperation to sell won so completely when the tp was opened. it was like the global economic crisis was mirrored in our game. everything’s on sale SALE SALE!

i think it’ll take a few months to settle down, but it’ll get there. it’s a player-run economy, after all. anet didn’t set the prices. we did.

Did anyone ever stop and think that maybe all thekittenbotters are the ones doing this? Cause I have been playing since launch and have seen a huge amount of botters just camping certain events that happen often, and in my experience in this game some of the better loot drops off event mobs, also more rare stuff too. Its just easier for the botters to just list at the lowest selling and be done with it. They dont care, anet really needs to deal with these fools.

You don’t understand.

The problem is to many things drop and that players have the ability to list anywhere in the world.

So they use the TP as a vendor regardless if they get a little less.

Solution is to make less drop, remove ability to list anywhere so ppl use vendors as their garbage bin.
