Performance tip for Nvidia users
If you do not follow all the steps above. At least make the “Clean install” checkbox is checked during any new driver install. It’s not perfect but Nvidia does a pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves.
Hi guys
Bought myself a new graphics card this weekend for some better performance in-game. Was a bit horrified to find that my max FPS had gone up quite a lot but my game was stuttering every now and then, and things just felt less smooth than on my old card.
Anyway, I found this to be a great help and my game is running like butter now:
1. Download Driver Sweeper ( http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4266-driver-sweeper.html )
2. Uninstall all current nvidia items (Graphics Driver, HD Audio, PhysX, Update, 3D Vision etc) listed underneath “Programs and Features” / “Add or Remove Programs” in your Windows Control Panel. This may take a few restarts to do!
3. After you’ve removed all Nvidia software through the control panel, restart your PC again.
4. Now, run Driver Sweeper (as Administrator by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting “Run as Administrator”). Tick the boxes for “NVIDIA – Chipset”, “NVIDIA – Display” and “NVIDIA – PhysX”, then click analyse. After you’ve done this, you’ll see that Driver Sweeper lists all the leftover Nvidia stuff on your PC.
5. Tick all the boxes EXCEPT those that are of type “Registry” – so basically tick the boxes that relate to “File” and “Directory”. A good rule of thumb is NEVER to use any software to alter your registry – it can cause LOTS of problems that can only be solved by re-installing your OS from scratch. So rather just leave registry stuff alone at all costs.
6. Once you’ve ticked all the boxes that aren’t type “Registry”, click CLEAN and wait for it to complete.
7. Now, install the latest nvidia drivers (306.23) and restart your PC.
8. Launch Guild Wars 2 and enjoy!
PS. Use this at your own risk, I’m merely relaying my own experience of doing this. I found this helped me a great deal, and my game is running beautifully now.
Good luck!
