Hi guys!

I’ve played GW2 off and on for the better part of a year now, but for some reason I’ve never really gotten past level 15 (mostly because it is my first MMO and I wasn’t sure what classes I would like, etc, so I just tried… all of them). Anyway, I’m back playing now, but most of the guild I was in quit to go back to WoW, leaving me alone on my server… and I can’t seem to find ANYONE online, ever. It’s really frustrating because it’s hard to participate in some of the events alone… any suggestions on a server to try out or just general tips? Like I said I’m low level and fairly new to MMOs.

Thanks!

The game rewards you for doing content. If you skip Heart events, or your Personal Story, then you’ll find it rough to level. A lot of dynamic events scale, so all can be done solo. Large group or world events require other people.

It sounds like you’re in an Oceanic or Euro server time, if it’s as empty as you say. Research servers, and find one that fits your timezone.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

Thank you for the replies!

I am on an American server – Magumma – and I thought I was following along with the quests and storylines (though I might be missing something)… anyway, I’m still having some major issues keeping up with the recommended level for my story line after level 12 ish. I’ve been trying to research the different servers, but I suppose I’m just too new to everything/was always dependent on the people in my guild, so being on my own, I’m a bit lost!

For a new server i would suggest to guest on blackgate, Jade quarry and tarnish coast to see which one you like best. They are the 3 biggest American servers.

It isnt that uncommon to run out of hearts if you stick to one starting zone. You can either go to a new one and just keep on talking to scouts until you find level 8 or up hearts or join the champ zerg in queensdale for a few levels.

imo the easiest way to get to the other starting zones is to just enter wvw and leave through the lion arch gate and go to the gates in the middle of lions arch.

If you want to try other servers go to the character select screen and click the World Selection button in the bottom left corner. Pick a server from the list and click ‘guest’. Then log into a character. You’ll get to play exactly as if you’re on that server so it’s a good way to get an idea of how many people are around and what they’re like.

If you run out of things to do in your starter zone(s) you can go to others by going to your capital city and looking for a pink swirly icon on the map. Go there and through the pink portal and you’ll be in Lions Arch – the central city. Take any of the other pink portals and you’ll go to another race’s city and can play in their starter zone. because of the down-levelling system even if you’re above the recommended level for the area you’ll still get experience and loot equivalent to your level so you won’t miss out by doing this.

Also remember that you can’t level up just by doing your personal story and heart quests. That’s just a small part of the game. You should ideally be doing a bit of everything (map completion, heart quests, gathering crafting materials to either use or sell etc.) but what you really want to do doing is dynamic events – the ‘quests’ the show up in orange on the map and on the list in the top right corner. They give the best XP and the best rewards and later on they completely replace heart quests so it’s important to get into the habit of doing them.

Last I knew, Maguuma is fairly populated. As said above, try to guest around. If you decide to switch servers, you can delete all if your characters and do it for free. If you don’t want to delete them, you’ll have to buy gems to transfer.
