Personal Guild Advice?
Updated every Monday
It kind of depends. Do you have another guild you rep that keeps buffs up or is this your only guild? If you rep another guild with the buffs, then maybe more storage later. It’s not worth spending influence on stuff you don’t need. If that’s your only guild it depends how fast you fill the first storage up versus how important the buffs are to you.
Without knowing any particulars like how much you accumulate, if you rep other guilds, what areas of the game you prefer, etc… It’s hard for anyone to specifically recommend.
My only guild. I am indeed looking towards Economy, because I like the idea of having my own banners. The Guild Vault has been a real letdown. I can’t store a lot of stuff in there, because most things I want to keep around are account bound. So, I’m not really thinking of spending tons more influence to get more vault slots. I think I’d rather buy bank slots with gems instead.

As with every other aspect in this game, you will find that many of the things you thought you could do can only be accomplished by spending money. I was similarly burned with the guild vault; thinking I could avoid the ridiculous cost for extra bag slots with a little bit of effort, I aimed to purchase the vault early on, only to find that by the time I built it, it was largely unfillable with my items as nearly everything in my inventory is account or soul bound. I have a single 20 slot bag simply filled with weapons since my warrior uses so many different sets, while another bag sits full of salvage kits, boosters and wvw items. One of the biggest problems is that certain items that aren’t marked as soulbound are anyway, e.g. my old wvw golems, and others cannot stack even though they are of the same type.
Kind of OT, but keep in mind the inherent risks with keeping valuables in a Guild Bank.
If you DO ever get hacked and wiped, Anet will restore your account the first time (again, only ONCE) but they will NEVER restore anything associated with any Guild.
Also, Guild banks do not transfer with you when changing home worlds.
Don’t get me wrong, I use one and keep most of my gold there (probably a bad choice), but I wanted to share the “downside” with you.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
When I first started this game I made TWO guilds with the 50 slot storage. Then I realized the use limitations. Then I found out if you get hacked you lose all. Then I found out’ it ties you to that server. So, is the storage useful? Somewhat. I’ve slowly been getting extra stacks of stuff I don’t want to sell (T6 mats, gems, cooking mats and ingots) but nowhere near enough to fill one of my guilds, much less two.
If you flip on the TP and have lots of extra stuff you hold for awhile, if you don’t sell all your mats for some reason, if you are reasonably sure your account is safe, if you are not planning to transfer, then the guild bank vault is a good choice. Otherwise you might go toward the buffs instead.
I’ve been mainly storing some runes and sigils as well as weapon drops for the mystic forge in the guild vault. Other than that you could look into guild weapons and armour (politics line).

“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Build a bank.
Edit your logo.
Everything else isn’t worth the influence since you would likely need to buy large sums of it simply to do anything else. Guilds are meant to have lots of players in them generating influence playing and the upgrades are priced based on that assumption.

But, I’ll be gaining influence steadily because I will be playing all my characters, and spend a fair bit of time in the game. So, it’s basically free influence that I’m wondering what to do with.

But all your characters still count only as one member of the guild. Influence is awarded on a player’s activities in the guild.

I know that. I know I’ll be getting influence 100 times slower than a guild of 100 active players. But I’ll still be getting influence over time.

And I saying that if you want to build up your guild in a timely matter then you will have to buy influence to do that and the amount you spend isn’t really worth, in my opinion, the benefits beyond a basic bank and a personal logo. Each to their own.

Banners or buffs are probably the only practical option. I wouldn’t have thought you’d use anything else.
Also a personal guild vault is very useful if you decide to level cooking, because a lot of the intermediate steps aren’t account bound and there are A LOT of them.
