You don’t need to rep it at all, except when you want to access it. The bank will only be destroyed if you leave your guild (ie. there is no one listed on the roster).

That’s right.
Any guild (personal or shared) will be saved, along with all upgrades and anything in the bank, as long as it has at least 1 member. Even if no one represents it.
What you can’t do is leave the guild. If the guild has no members then it’s deleted and even if you contact Support they can’t get it back.
Which means you want to be careful when clicking the represent button that you don’t hit the wrong one. You could also find someone you trust completely not to rob you and make them a member as well as a precaution. Make sure they have permission to invite new members and then they can re-add you if you ever accidentally leave. As long as at least 1 of you is a member the guild and bank is safe.

Everything that was said is true. I have a personal guild for a long time with me as the only member, and I only represent it when I want to deposit or withdraw items from the guild bank. The guild is still there after a year.
What I must not do is leaving the guild. On leaving, the guild and its bank is immediately and irrevocably gone and destroyed. Representing other guilds is always fine. You must be careful to join/represent other guilds, since the button to leave a guild is next to the button to not represent a guild. Don’t click the wrong one. I even don’t know if there is a confirmation dialog.
I just want to add some advice: think about what you’re putting into your guild bank. If your account is hacked, the hackers can steal those items and Anet will not recover items from the guild bank. I’m speaking from personal experience. Don’t deposit gold or very expensive items. I believe the gold selling/hacking has decreased quite a bit, but it is still always a threat, and better safe than sorry.
There is a confirmation dialog, don’t worry.
You may stand down from your guild, it simply removes the guild tag, but the guild still exists. However, you may NOT ‘Leave Guild’, or else your guild bank will cease to exist.
