I’m planning to build a guild bank and i was wondering if it is safe, i mean, the stuff that i’ll put in it could be lost somehow?

Umm, as safe as anything else. Maybe a word of caution, don’t play with your “rank priviliges”, you might lose access there and don’t accidentally click on leaving the guild.

But otherwise, I haven’t lost anything so far. The only pain, things don’t stack automatically, so you have to take the item out first, stack it in your bag and then put it back into the bank.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

That’s been my experience as well. I started a personal bank guild about 6 months ago originally to store intermediate cooking ingredients, but I now use it for all kinds of stuff and keep most of my gold in there. I haven’t had any issues so far.

As long as you don’t change your privileges or rank or leave the guild you should be fine.

Why would you store gold in the bank? It doesn’t take up bag space and with the addition of the wallet system, you can access it with any character anytime.

Some people have said they like to put their money in the guild bank to make sure they don’t accidentally buy too much from the trading post because of lag. Others like to have each character maintain it’s own amount of money for roleplay reasons. They keep tabs of which has how much and withdraw that amount each time or use an starting empty bank balance each day to make it easier to tell.

Yeah that makes sense. I wasn’t criticizing, I literally could not think of a reason why someone would do that.

Some people may also let their kids play a character on the account (technically against the EULA, yes, but you can bet that this happens), and storing money in the guild bank is a way to ensure that young kids don’t accidentally spend all of Mommy or Daddy’s savings buying up 250 Lodestones or the like.

In my case it’s a way of managing my money in the game. The money I keep on my characters (in the wallet now) is a relatively small amount for every day expenses, things like waypoints, repairs, salvage kits etc. Everything else goes into one big pool to be saved up for bigger purchases.

It makes it easier to keep track of how much I have saved up, means I can spend it all without suddenly finding myself unable to repair my armor and having it somewhat hidden instead of right there whenever I open my inventory makes it easier to resist the temptation to spend it right now.

Also a word of caution. If you change worlds the bank stays where it was.

Good point, but can’t you “guest” back and retrieve items/gold?

I thought I read some threads long ago about not accessing from off world but can’t be 100% sure.

Several points (mentioned above):

  1. Guild Bank is tied to the Server World it was built on.
  2. Guild Banks cannot be accessed while guesting to a server (so transferring and then guesting back will NOT allow you to have access).
  3. Guild Banks will NOT be restored if an account roll-back happens.

I have heard of other players using the TP Buy Orders as a way to store gold. Place a Buy order for Twilight at 250g and you will loose some gold, but that gold is pretty safe until you cancel the order. Worse case (sans account being compromised and stripped) someone fills the order and you make a tidy profit!

When you’re guesting you still have access to the guild bank from your home server. Normally this is great and really convenient, but it does mean you can’t guest back to an old server to retrieve stored items.

If you want to transfer you will have to shift everything to your actual bank and/or characters inventories.

What Danikat said is what I meant in terms of guesting….I worded it poorly as I was trying to emphasize that trying to access it AFTER you transfer is too late.

Guildbanks are tied to a world. If you change world (transfer, not guesting) it stays there. It’s not lost but you need to transfer back or get a second guildmember to get the items out. So best is to get them before transferring.

This is the only way I ever heard things got lost. Some people have been spreading rumours that you could get banned, but there has been no reports bout that at all and I think that’s a hoax. Also never heard of a bug causing things to be gone. So basicly it is very safe, just a bit limited cause you cant store accountbound items.

when you say “roll-back” you mean when an account is hacked and anet restore it before the hacking?

Yes, an account restoration, or account rollback, takes the account to a date before the hack. This will give you all or most of your items back. However guild banks are not attached to accounts and can not be rolled back so if someone hacks your account and also steals stuff from your guild bank or personal guild bank, any items or money that were in the that bank are permanently lost.

This is interesting and could be a problem (hoping, of course, to not being hacked). Well, that means that in the guild bank i will put items with less value such as living items and stuff like that.

This is bad, then it’s completely useless… Or you have to be prepared on a possible loss of everything in it

Really depends, you can put runes and sigils in it, crafting material, food, save weapons and armour until you have enough for a run at the mystic forge. Every holiday crafting material that you get lots off and you might want to keep – zhaitaffy, watchwork sprockets etc.

If you are really concerned that you might need an account rollback then I would suggest only to put items in that you can live without but take up space.

It’s the same as a guild bank. One member with privileges who gets hacked and everything can be lost.

So only put in stuff you are willing to lose. My personal guild bank holds excess mats. If I lose them it’s annoying but not end of the world. However If I was going for a Legendary, I wouldn’t put the stacks of T6 mats needed for it in there. Those are too pricy.

On the other hand I’ve heard that some people got hacked and lost everything sellable in their actual bank but their personal guild bank was untouched because the hacker didn’t think to check if they had one. I guess it’s luck based on who hacks your account (if it happens at all).

I use mine mainly to store intermediate cooking ingredients I made but can’t use yet, extra crafting materials (I can’t refine/use the higher tiers yet but I don’t want to sell them all because I know I’ll need more than 250 when I do get to that point) runes and dyes I might want but haven’t decided which character to use them for….oh and Black Lion Chests for those rare occasions when I get a free key.

I think since the introduction of the Wallet feature, the personal guild bank has become more common knowledge (as a way to stash gold…tho that may not be the best idea) and it’s much less likely a hacker will miss this…..still, it is possible.
