Hello.

I have a friend from America who might start play GW2 soon. The problem is I’m from the EU, so I don’t know if in case he plays in a EU server from there, he’ll have way too much lag or what.

Could anyone help me with this, please? Would that lag be gamebreaking?

Too bad I can’t guest US servers

Thanks

He can play on EU servers.

We can’t really say how bad the lag will be though because it depends on a lot of factors which will be unique to him like his computer’s specs and how good his internet connection is. Someone living next door and using the same provider might be able to give him a general idea but he’ll really have to try it out himself to know for sure.

I(and others in my guild) have been doing that since beta. The only times I’ve had issues was due to my connection(my ISP seems to think 50% packet loss is acceptable service) and not because I was playing on an EU server.

That being said a friend who is also in guild has had unplayable lag due differences in routing since we use a different ISP. When using a different ISP or proxying through a connection on a different ISP the problem goes away. Then there is the person who has a similar issue but only on weekends, especially around the daily reset.

So the answer is both yes and no.

Your friend can try it for a week and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out they can transfer for free by deleting all their characters. Names are reserved for something like 24 hours.

Oh, didn’t know you could change your main server by deleting all your chars!

Ok then guys, those replies seem quite logic, so yeah, I’ll tell him to try it this weekend and see how it goes.

Thanks!
