Playstyle and Build Co-ordination Help
Let me first say that I don’t PvP and I don’t WvW much either. I don’t feel that PvE will prepare you for either modes, WvW might be more forgiving here hiding in a zerg, but otherwise you will want to use different traits and equipment, depending on profession maybe even a different weapon.
You may want to have your thread moved to the competitive section as you will have better exposure, perhaps check out the guides from this thread, not sure how up to date they are – or check the profession sub-forums themselves.

“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Thank you for the advice:)
But i actually want a build that will work for all 3. If that is not possible i might get a WvW build and use the same for PvE. If it has infinite evade and thus a chance for survival even in the most desperate situation, the build will still have some sort of offense to use against mobs.
But yeah, my main focus is on infinite evade and some simple offense hopefully not exceeding 1-2 or 1-3 move combos.
That being said shifting this to competitive section. Thank you again.
Don’t use a build for all 3 game modes, it’ll be sub optimal in at least 2 of them. Striclty for evades, thieves have access to a lot of evades via traits ( acrobatic traitline), utilities ( withdraw) and vigor. Engineers also have perma vigor and utilities to refill their endurance ( elixir r). That said, evade isn’t the only way to mitigate damage, and engis and thieves melt against conditions. All classes except necros have access to active defense, so any will do. Rangers have a fast paced evading playstyle with their weaponskills, and they are in a good spot now, the dps rotation isn’t that hard either. It’s an easy class to do ok with, but an hard class to master. If you do take ranger, the pve meta build is 6/5/0/3/0, and there’s a few different pvp related builds.
Hope that helps.

If you read his post in here and the one in the WvW section you would have seen that he mentions that. I mentioned he might get better help and suggestions there, which it seems to me he got more answers in the other thread.

Its good to see a player same as in my shoes.. i also played dark souls 1 , dark souls 2.. and started GW2 before one month. I havent been much into PVP and WvW though.. Have went only a couple of times.
I mainly play a thief . I focus on power and condition damage for weapons. For armor I go for vit and toughness. Its more like a overtime damage build. Of the 3 skills i choose 1 poison, 1 blindness , 1 mobility.. With the steal ability and shadowstep thieves are well mobile and difficult to catch. Same goes for traits , ya I too had difficult time in understanding it , but then got hold and learned to do various builds with it.
I saw a video from dreamy abaddon which taught me the 3 aspects of gw2 combat – damage (straight damage),control(crippling, poison and other effects),support(buff to ourselves, heal etc) . I try to follow my playstyle according to it and have worked well so far :)

P.S. A small one. I get “connection error detected retrying” whenever i try to open the client. I read on forum this happens whenever anet updates game. Has this still not been fixed and should i just wait it out?
There is NO generic issue related to connection issues and game updates….but there are some players that don’t understand how the internet works and feel more comfortable blaming the Anet Servers for issues on THEIR connection to these servers. If they spent a bit of time trying to solve the actual problem rather than posting disinformation on these forums, we’d all be better off.
There are plenty of players over a the Tech Support forum that would be willing to help you investigate and solve your connection issues.
