So I just purchased and downloaded the game but I am wondering how many characters i can have and what i mean by that is when i clicked to pick a home world it said are you sure blah blah blah. am i going to be stuck on that server only or can i make other characters on different servers and keep the characters i already have?

You can have 5 characters initially and buy more slots with gems.

You can guest onto other servers, the only impact choosing your server has is WvW, you can only fight in WvW for your choosen server.

All your characters will be on that 1 server, I think new players might still get a free transfer to another server or perhaps a medium population or less server, not 100% sure on this last point however…

And no, new players do not get a free transfer, it still costs gems no matter where they want to transfer to.

You can have 5 characters at first, but you can buy more character slots from the in-game store, with either real money or in-game money converted to gems. There is a maximum number of slots but it’s something like 27, far more than most people would ever want.

You can only have characters on one server at a time. Once you pick a server all your characters will automatically be added to that server.

However you can guest on another server, which lets you play exactly as if you were on that one. The only thing you can’t do is enter WvW, you will be moved back to your home server for that.

You can also transfer to another server permanently by paying gems (again these can be bought with either real or in-game money), or by deleting all your characters which lets you pick a new server.

Oh, you’re also limited to one transfer every 7 days.
