Q:
Please help me choose better controls
A:
I play ranger as my main character. IF you don’t mind spending money, I’d recommend the Razer Naga mouse. I use it and it works perfectly for me.
For the pet skills I use ctrl+1,2,3,4.
I use Alt+1,2,3,4 myself – really amazing for pretty much all profession with multiple functions (shatters, attunements, toolkits, guardian things :P). I have weapon swap on 11 (the dash/minus key) also. The ability to always move and still hit your skills without removing your left hand from the movement keys is so much better than trying to hit 8 with your left index finger.
I also use shift to dodge instead of double tapping movement; C to select closest enemy (although it’s sort of wonky in what the game interprets as closest enemy, but useable); V to swim down; Alt+B for town clothes (because you can); Alt+F for sheath/draw weapon (extra RP friendly); Alt+R to switch run/walk (on sketchy vista/jumping puzzle ascents); Z to look backwards; X to turn 180 degrees. Hmmmm…. I think that covers most of my personal keybinds.

Gaming mice really are awesome: my DPS went up by 20% when I got my first one. You can buy a Naga or G600 for around the price of a new AAA title. In my opinion, it’s well worth skipping out on a game every couple years to let you play the others with more comfortable controls.
However, if you don’t have the money or simply don’t think a ton of mouse controls are for you, then the thing to do is get rid of the default WASD bindings. Mouse turning is better anyway. Bind dodge or autorun to your mouse wheel and one of the keys you’ve freed up. Now you have prime keyboard real estate open for skills.
I think the best solution is to work out your own preferences by trial and error. If you find a key awkward or uncomfortable think about where you would prefer it to be and move it.

Hi all
I really appreciate the help and @Ska: awesome.
Mouse turning.
I am sure I have that option on, but I still have to click the right mouse button to look. Is that normal? I would love to free up the WASD but I don’t see how…
Also:
How do you all set up your two side mouse buttons?
Many thanks again!
I changed my 7,8,9,0 to z,x,c,v
Thanks all
Appreciate the help
LOL if you think Warrior and Ranger are hard to bind try playing Engineer; you need 4 more buttons for tool belt skills
I use
W A S D – movement – A D strafe
MouseWheelClick Q E R F – for weapon skills
Ctrl Z X C – for tool belt
1 2 3 4 – for skills and elite
Shift for interact
SideMouseButton for take closest target
took some time to master but now I have no trouble and complicated Engineer combat just flows for me
edit: oh and dodge on Alt, forgot to say
btw not using WASD for movement is just silly (A and D strafe not turn, obviously)
