Please help me decide a new class.
Hey Sheepy,
You actually sound just like I did a while back. Having got my warrior to 80 enjoyed playing it, still do however I yearned for something more (moved on from sonic boon myself to hammer/longbow/banner and can’t help but love it, hated the hammer pre-80 though.) I too started an ele and have it at 37 I will level it but I just didn’t find myself enjoying it.
After that I took the same route as you choosing guardian/necro/ranger and to be honest I still cant choose, my guardian is 40, ranger 30 and necro 30 currently, what I have found I’ll post though.
Guardian is a machine, decent output damage, ridiculous condition control, buffs for allies, I already feel I help those around me now more than when I was running support on my warrior, I’m also yer to die or be downed as my guardian, don’t be put off too much by the fast that the scepter, it is nice for ranged has a couple moves but I just haven’t used it, primarily running GS/Staff and its amazing, staff for hitting 5 mobs at once, symbol for swiftness (when coupled with shout retreat basically = perma swiftness) healing and damage output plus Staff 4 is great for adding might to yourself and those around you. The range isn’t an issue being close is fine so far, late game who knows however plenty of people still use them later so it clearly isn’t an issue.
Ranger – This is the perfect solo class, if you PvE, it does have its issues, however with the small changes since the last update the ranger is 100 times better then before, pets are much more reliable now too, if you can learn when to swap them and when to use abilities you will be fine, it means you have 2 health bars to look into aswell, utilities are not too bad, nothing amazing, currently running signets(25% speed boost <3) and asura racial and its working for me, they’re a good solid class now with the buffs to bows speed helping out too, it’s solid but not to everyones liking a friend got his to 16 then just rerolled as a warrior and enjoys it much more, so not for everyone.
Necro is possibly one of the more fun classes to play stacking conditions like they’re nothing, the combo of scepter/dagger and staff is amazing, however this class I dislike playing solo, it just isn’t fun for me to level alone, kiting to kill with conditions etc, you could level more efficiently with a pure power build and wells I’m sure and the f1 shroud is great, however it definately shines at high levels, I again can’t help too much on it as I only use it when I can level with friends as solo it’s just not a patch on the other two classes, maybe if you’re in a more populated server you will have a better time, for me on Fissue Of Woe, its a struggle. You should read this http://lopezirl.com/2012/12/19/a-condition-necromancers-guide-to-pve/ also from a guy in the necro forums section, it gives an amazing amount of information and is the reason I went ahead and rolled necro as an alt.
Hey Sheepy!
I would give you my experience with Guardian and Hunter
Guardian is a tank! Simple and honest, they are build to stand in the fight. My Guard is only lvl 44 atm but as Dan has told, you have the feeling that you can help others so much, it’s a wonderfull class to play. I too use GS as main weapon, have tried Hammer but it feels a bit slow atm, and a Staff for that ranged moment. You will not do the most damage, but that is not an issue, you must stand strong in the fight for condition control and buffing. So far having sooo much fun with my Guard that i consider it to be my main char atm.
Ranger, i played that a lot to! The only reason why i stopped was that i didn’t liked my chars looks and story. I went male human but it never felt right for me. So i stopped playing him before the minor patch. Before i stopped, i had a great time as it was my first char and it went all good in pve. Didn’t tried PVP yet but i’ve seen people using rangers in WvW and they seem a good teamplayer in assaults (love the range off the longbow).
Necro, i have no experience with them, they are next on my list to try out
But a few people in my guild told me that they rock!! And you don’t need to play the summoner, you can spec in a total different way.
That is all i wanted to tell you, hope you have some use for it. Good luck and let us know what way you went
