Hi guys. I recently started playing GW2, and I made an Engineer. After a bit of time and research, I came up with a sort of build that I felt that suit my playstyle. This build will mainly be for PvE: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQJAqelUUpEr9ZxdLseNSbBFylODQeiM85CEgjC-e

I’m more or less going for a split between dmg and tankiness, but more dmg though. The extra tankiness is just for more survivability, since I usually play solo for most of the time. I also don’t know what sort of armor I should have, so I would like some tips on that as well.

So, any sort of advice can you guys give? I’m not much of an MMORPG guy, so idk if it’s good or not as a base.

If by PvE, you mean dungeons, than this build is good. It may not be meta for engineer, but its close enough that you’ll do plenty of damage. Just be sure to rotate between your kits and weapon skills with a priority system. And be aware of knockback if you want to use big old bomb (you should). Elixir gun 4, when candled I think is the highest priority, after you have gotten the boss to 25 vulnerability. Also, I’d switch to rifle, but its not necessary. Especially if you plan on pugging mostly, having some more might may be more useful than slightly more damage.

I’m not sure if reinforced shield works when using a kit.
If this is the case I’d just put 2 points into firearms and pick up modified ammo instead.

For armour, berserkers/assassins is always a solid choice for most pve related things.
A tip would be to learn about combos. The engineer can be a very heavy combo using class.

Other than that, it’s a build that’s better than what most newbies plan on using.

i changed a few traits because your trait point distribution is fine if one feels lazy about maintaining speedy kits like with this (i often do), but a lot of the traits you had on there arent very helpful compared to the other options available for the same slot.

if you go power or cele gear, consider rifle, and swap coated bullets for rifle mod if you take rifle. p/s is fine with power gear, but situational – you have to fight lots of grouped up mobs for p/s to be worth anything, imo.

personally i recommend going full zerker or zerk/assassin and just getting used to it so you dont suck when faced with a challenge. active defenses such as blinds, dodges, and line of sight abuse are far far far more powerful than additional toughness and vit.

since you solo, condi is also a good option. go rabid or sinister. if you do, swap to p/p for moar burn or use perplexity runes with p/s.
