Guild Wars 2

I am VERY new and I am certain I’ll pick things up through experience but asking for tips on general play is never a bad thing, either.

Basically, I am coming at GW2 with….embarrassing numbers of years of WoW under my belt. I know GW2 is like the anti-WoW when it comes to the trinity.

But what other differences or similarities should I be aware of to smooth my way into this game? In WoW I was a macro nut, for example. Are there macros in this game? (I am…frankly hoping there are not…)

Ask around in the map chats, explore, gather, craft when you want, and overall just let curiousity take over when you play!

Tips I can give you is to forget everything you’ve learned about MMOs up until now and go into GW2 with a new mindset. GW2 is different and has a unique style of its own.

If you’re wondering about something always ask in /map or type /wiki to find more information. People are actually friendly and willing to help in this game.

Some basic info that’s good to know:

-Inventory, click on the top right cogwheel icon and choose “Deposit all collectibles” this will remove all your materials and put them in your storage.

-Bank, shared with all your characters.

-Crafting, always try to discover new recipes for more crafting experience.

-Minimap/Worldmap, alt + left click lets you mark a personal waypoint. Shift + hold left click lets you draw on the map. Shift + left click lets you ping on the map. Ctrl + left click on a waypoint will link it to your chat.

I didn’t know that. Can you create / mark multiple waypoints and what they’re for?

This is what I call my Tips trinity.

1) This game isn’t a rush to 80. The end content is there right from lvl 2 when you finish your starting zone. Want to pvp jump into heart of the mist and you are 80 automatically, want to kill an epic boss? Wait for an epic boss event to trigger, most of them are around lvl 10 I believe but you can join the fight regardless of level.

2) Explore!!! The game events are fun like no other, if you find yourself in a zone that is your level but feels a bit hard at the moment go to another race zone and explore it, you will be down leveled and you be able to gain exp rewards and gear for your level regardless of the zone level.

3) Completely forget about the trinity, every dungeon boss I fought thus far “I miss some exploration dungeons” can be beaten with any set up of classes, just need to find the right strategy to beat em.

And on a side tip: Remember everything gives exp, so gather everything you can, craft whatever you can and help people when they need to be revived.

Each person has one personal waypoint they can place on the map.

Just have fun! I played GW’s for 5 years and when I started this game I feel like I’m back to being a noobcookie again, so even veteran GW’s players are in the same boat as yourself. A good thing to do is join a guild, they’ll no doubt be able to help you with questions. It’s support on tap :P
